Proud of the ole girl

The little 8n ford tractor made me proud of her today. I put the hay spear on it and moved a 4x5 roll of hay with it. I even had to get out on the public road to transport the hay to my horse lot. Ive had this little tractor for about a year and this is the first job she ever completed. Ive tried to bush Hogg with it but it and the bush hog are not compatible with each other pto shaft is to long.
I moved the hay without any weights on the front. It really does need some weight when I came up a small hill and had to turn i had to ride the left side brake but that was the only time she got light in the front.

Ive put a new battery in it, new brakes on right side and fix the seals and hub on the right side, new manifold gaskets,etc....

Looks good!I have a 52' 8n that I use for the small jobs, and I have a 5' hardy brushhog for it that is very heavy, and on the slightest hill,I have to steer with the brakes as well😄.

Sounds like your hydraulics are strong. I refer to the right and left brake pedals as mechanical power steering.
I don't have any hills to deal with so no load/weight transfer there. As for brushhog? I HAD a 5 foot Ford brushhog for 40 years. For many years I did not have an ORC. I learned to depress the clutch and disengage the PTO at the same time. Then, to reingage the PTO I either let it's momentum force the hydraulics up OR set the mower on the ground until it stopped. I did learn how to drive forward and engage the PTO with the mower still turning.
When I did install an ORC I had to shorten the PTO shaft for the mower. I also had to adjust the three point hitch so that when I picked up the mower the shaft did not hit the mower housing.

Tractor supply has a set of instructions on how to measure and shorten a PTO shaft. They gave me one free when I bought a new shaft several years ago. Not complicated, but the measuring instructions came in handy.

Use to put up hay for this guy on shares. At the time I had a Vermeer 504C baler. This guy did not want to wear out the lift on his 8N, so he would get his wife out there and they would roll the bale on a car hood and he would drag it out to pasture.

When round bales first came into the area, we hired a local custom baler to roll some up for us. I had a JD B with no three point or loader. I got a sheet of 3/4" plywood, bolted a 2 X 4 around the edge and bolted a short chain to the ends. I made a front bumper for the B, and would roll the bales on the plywood and drag them to a row for storage. We fed cows all winter with that set-up. We thought we were running with the big boys.
