On my trip today. Bought two different hay hooks they are handy for unplugging big balers. Was at tsc and they had a big crescent Ive been wanting one because they are handy at times will really complement my 46 inch pipe wrench. Another store had magnetic lights for a good price so i got them they are nice when moving equipment at night or for when a trailer doesn’t have lights

Those will come in handy! I bought a job smart 1/18” wrench from tsc this summer for working on my haybine,

Good enough for my needs. Im gonna go to harbor freight after work tomorrow or Sunday to buy a air needle scaler. I dont mind buying those cheaper tools for occasional use.

I just borrowed my neighbor's 24" crescent. Loosening up some cat. III lift links on a tractor I just bought, and my 16" wouldn't open big enough!

I have quite a few harbor freight tools had pretty good luck with them . This crescent is quite a bit heavier than the harbor freight one and the adjustment seems to be tighter too

I have a 24" Crescent adjustable I bought from Morse Hardware in Bellingham about 1972. They gave us 30% discount on tools, at the pea cannery. That thing has had 5 foot pieces of pipe on it, beat with a sledge hammer, used as a hammer, and it just keeps on working.

Thats in the days when a guy could buy good tools bedides off a truck. Ive abused my John Deere tools and they are prettt tough to though . Ive had a one inch ir impact on my John Deere chromed sockets and 1 to 3/4 tractor supply adapter

Huh...never thought about carrying a hay hook with me while round baling. Would give you something to grab the bale with on the rare occasion when needed.

Never really liked them for square bales, mine has been getting used putting turkeys in/out of the deep fryer.

Bought a scaler from HF a while back. Used it a couple of times to clean up very rusty old plow rims. Worked good. Seems they had two different models, I bought the better one. It is adjustable. Noisy, too. Need hearing protection.

Had a hay hook like that once. Carried it on the baler tractor. Lost it baling hay one day, looked and looked for it.
Two years later found it baling hay. Don't think I made one trip across the field and lost it again. Don't rent that piece of ground anymore.

Talking about pipe wrenches, 48" aluminum pipe wrench (Ridgid) is mighty handy around the farm. We used them at work for the belly cap on tank cars & they are super strong.

I have Klein "adjustable wrenches" now. They are dual purpose, with SAE markings on one side and Metric on the other......Don't have a left and right though.....

I’ve used bale hooks all my life on small squares, hard to handle a load of hay any other way, my hands blister up on the twine, and the hooks make stacking much easier, can throw the bale up with my leg as a push, instead of all arm lift.

However, the hooks need to be fairly short, only 4-5 inches or so. Those long ones are nice for grabbing as you plan, but not for carrying a bale or pitching them.
