How would you describe it, sort of an off-road tracked buggy or hauler of some kind? Certainly interesting.

When I was a kid, I remember rigs like that. They
were called “Jiggers” . They were used in the bush
land to the north of us as personal transportation.
One or two guys could ride back into the Bush to
cut logs, in nearly any conditions, snow, mud
whatever, didn’t need roads.

Looks like a real rugged machine. Joe Giordano might be interested in it and he might know something about it which could help you. Joe Giordano, Port Orchard, WA 360-
204-1017.

Quite interesting.
Tubular chassis, plywood sides and 2x10 fenders?

Wisconsin engine?

Never seen a transaxle like that, but probably not the intended application.

How many speeds?

Looks like fun. When I was a kid there few some guys in our town that were making something like that out of car rear ends and wisconsin
engines, the v4s, and cutting tractor tires and pulling them over tires. I remember them in parades doing donuts down the street and
wheelies.

The Arnold Ranger was built in northern MN in the 60's 70's and into the 80's this one has a B&S Model 23 9 hp the transaxle has 3 forward 1 reverse, state of MN DNR Forestry had them used them in the forest and for fighting wild fires a number of utility company's used them.
Sure wish someone had some iformation on the transaxle

(quoted from post at 15:17:52 11/20/20) That looks like a rig a friend of mine built and used for deer hunting back in the sixty's.

Hi Mike maybe he built this one?? Where in MN are you located I;m near Alexandria I'm not positive this is an Arnold Ranger

That sure looks like a fun machine. Could use some kind of ROPs, though, in case you flipped it! Leo

Looks like a bobcat with the loader stripped off and someone stuck the seat on backwards.

Funny.

Cool rig but what would it accomplish, is it a military deal?

Read my post up above

Don't know.
Case design resembles some of the early Peerless transaxles
but shifter and input are totally different.

(quoted from post at 22:37:41 11/20/20) Did there used to be a data tag where those two rivets are on top? Or is it there under the paint?
Hi Bob yes I think there was a data tag but its long gone thanks

While the US Army and Marines had a small vehicle similar to that it wasn't tracked.

I joined in 1974 and I think they were mostly out of the inventory by then. I never saw one in person.

I seem to remember pictures of a little tracked vehicle like the one the OP pictured in either dad's Popular Mechanics or Outdoor Life magazines back when I was a kid. I thought they looked pretty cool.

(quoted from post at 12:30:09 11/21/20) Just type in arnold ranger in google. Came right up.
I did that and have downloaded everything that can be found the problem being that information has a completely different transmission set up and differential, all that information indicated he used Power King hogshead bell housing clutch and the Warner T92 3 speed transmission. This machine does not have that, that's why I'm asking about the transaxle
