A Harvestore silo fell over near me in Brookline, Ontario, about 25 years ago. It was 90 foot tall and filled with corn silage. The silo started life as a 60 foot tower, but after building on to the barn to expand the dairy herd, they needed additional feed storage. Adding a extra 30 feet to the silo seemed to be a economical solution. And it was for a few years. Till it fell over on top of the new extension on the barn, killing several milk cows. The base wasn’t built strong enough to handle a 90 foot tower only built to handle the load and stress of a 60 foot tower.
