Gravity wagons

I have a couple of small gravity wagons I don't use anymore. My neighbort who did my combining three years ago called them wheelbarrows and didn't think he could hit them with his unloading auger. Anyway, a guy is coming to look at them tomorrow. They are 100 bushel, some rust on them but I patched them up to use. Running gears are 3 ton, tires good, tow well. I asked $250 each, was I in line?

I think if tires are good that's an ok price. When he pulls them to his place he can stop and drop boxes off at scrap metal yard, build a 14' flat rack on them and sell them to yuppie horse farmers.

I just sold a pair of 165's with no wagons at a consignment lot for 250 each. Not new but very usable. Also bought a pair of usable but rough easy flows at consignment auction with so so wagons for 160 each. I think you are in the ballpark $ wise.

Combine operator is right. Small boxes are hard to hit, and a 100 bu box will not come close to emptying even small combines from 30 years ago. Do then you gotta set multiple boxes in one spot in order to empty the auger, or leave the corn in the auger, causing unnecessary stress to the auger.

Likely a buyer will use little boxes like that for feed storage, or to make a deer hunting stand.

If true gravity boxes with the diagonal floor and side unload door, that’s about right, would be priced for a fairly quick sale. If they are flat floor flair or barge boxes, need a shovel or hoist to unload, might be a little high. Those seem to sell for $150-$200 pretty regularly in my area of MN.

Here in Iowa, A lot of guys put a flat floor in them, build the sides up and make portable hunting blinds out of them.

I wish I could find a small one like that. I buy corn in those nylon bags for my corn burner. Seems like such a waist to empty the bag... then what? Throw it away? I don't believe this is good for the planet. I wish they would sell it in burlap or something biodegradable.
