JD model A throttle

I have a 1949 Model A John Deere. It has been restored. New paint, all leaks fixed, etc. actually was in really bad shape when we bought it. Put a ton of money into it to restore it. Runs fine, hydraulic 3point works everything like that. My only problem is when i push it to full throttle on the lever it sounds like its only running a little over half throttle. In other words i think im not getting full throttle power. I do think it is a governor issue but i am relatively new to the JD classics. I am wondering how to adjust my governor to get full power or adjust throttle linkage or do i need to just adjust carb to get full power. Like i said as it is now when i push to what should be full throttle it feels and sounds like im only running maybe half or so power that it should be.

Do you have a service manual? That will explain the governor adjustment. It starts with setting the length of the rod. Sounds like that's where the problem is. The governor lever is pulling as far as it can but not opening the carburetor all the way.

Rated RPM under load is 975. Running with no load, wide open throttle you might see 1050. How are you checking RPMs?

With the throttle lever all the way ahead; arm on the carb wide open; the throttle rod should be 1/2 hole short of falling in.

If you have an old tach/dwell meter, set it to 4 cylinders and divide the reading by 2,that will give you the corrected RPM.

Thank you guys for the info. You are right i understand just listening to sound or feel isnt telling me what its actually doing but general knowledge me and my dad have just seems like its not throttling up all the way with no load on it. I wish we did but we dont have a dyno or tach meter. Would be a good tool to have. The comments about adjusting linkage and things will be really helpful i havent had time yet to look at it but i will be checking all those things asap. Thank you guys will let you know if we get it adjusted right.
