After around 75 years with the same gas company in our family, Dad started with them when they sold butane. Through the years Dad used a lot of butane or propane for his tractors it's time to find a cheaper one. The propane now is used for house use only now. The tank is a 250 gal. with 10% still inside. Will the gas company give me credit for the remaining gas, or will they even move it with gas in it? I doubt I can remove it, all it has is a vent valve. If I can get some out I have a smaller tank I can fill. Stan

I assume the tank is leased and dad is turning it back to them. If that's the case, new dealer can move tank a few feet, set their tank (or his owned tank)pump gas from old to new tank. All that's left is for dad to call them to pick their tank up.

Here on the other end of the country they can easily move a tank with that much in it, and will credit you for the estimated amount. My 1000 gal tank was settling and tilting, and they came out and re set it this fall, while it was full!

Make sure you read the contract before you call and tell them to pick up the tank. I had Amerigas for a propane company and I switched companies because they were a ripoff. I have a 500 gallon tank. In the contract it said if I canceled then the tank had to be at 5% or less or else they would charge me a fee. They also had a pump out fee if you needed to pump it down low enough so they could pick up the tank. Needless to say I ran that tank bone dry before I called them, I wasn't taking any chances with them.

Buy your own tank and bury it. But do your home work, they are expensive.

Keep in mind that fossil fuel is going to be taxed out of existence. Have you heard of the "green new deal"? I would be looking at electric. The environmentalists think it comes in on a copper wire, so it must be clean. They have no idea how it is generated.

We changed companies a few years back, the prices were consistently much higher than the competition, call and inquire and they would price match for 1 fill then jack the price back up.

Called them up to cancel and I was told about all the fees I would be charged for them to pump out the propane, pick up the tank etc.

I had enough of their pricing games so I really didn't care as what I was going to save on the first 1000 gal fill from the other company would still leave me with money ahead of the game.

New company came out with a new tank, lifted the old one up and transferred the contents into the new one.

When he was done he even offered to return the old tank to the other companies yard which saved me all of the fees I had been quoted.

I would say shop around and see who wants your business.

The companies in my area "trade" tanks all of the time, if the tanks are still in good shape. We've switched companies, and they said they just pay the old company for the tanks.

Around here all the little mom and pop suppliers have been brought up you may still be billed and supplied from the mom and pop operation but its all one company that owns them new...

I am off the bottle now on NG, a friend came in today he said it was $3.00 a gal to fill a 120 if he does not use it all in a year its a $99 surcharge... He has a set of fire logs just for the looks of them I guess he said they don't put out much of any heat...
