Follow up question on corn

I am building a wood grainery. I have a concrete floor, but plan to cover it with 1.5 inch of styrofoam insulation and plywood. The sides of my building are 2x4 done log cabin style. After reading all the comments on rockridgefarm's thread I am wondering if I should install some kind of aereation system to keep air flow. I will be storing shell corn and possibly milo.

15 percent moisture. It will keep. I do have a 6" perforated screwin pipe. With a small fan that sucks. I have used it on a 1600 bu bin with a concrete floor. I did put down plastic two layers thick. Bought 20 by 40. Started filling it and pulled plastic up all around. Made it easier to clean out.

Since you are still planning it would be wise to make provision for pushing air in even if you never end up using it. You could simply leave the insulation out of a few joist cavities. Next year drying may be difficult.

Consider building the floor with some perferorated steel. You can build a base for it with 2x4s and cinder blocks to get a chase underneath. Then you can install a fan if needed. I did that on a tower silo in 1999, and it works well. I poured the floor, laid down block, put lumber on top the block to have something to screw the panels to, and installed the floor.

I'm almost five feet up on the walls. What
I'm thinking now is to put a couple of
runs of perforated pipe in and make
provision for a fan.
The structure is 12x18, so what size pipe
and spacing, also size and spacing of
perforations.

Will cost more up front but will last the life of the building is put and air floor like for steel bins then no need for all the foam and plywood floor. could just seal the sides and put a hole in for the fan to bolt on. The whole floor would get air that way. Golden grain is in Strong City Ks and also in MO on US-36. Would have to look which town it is in there. We have 2 of those floors and like them they are smooth not like those hatchet cut rough floors the rest of the bin guys make. These sweep easy and nice to shovel or sweep on. Just put the second one in this fall. It will be about a foot off the floor when done. All steel with the stands and flashing. Give them the dimensions and they will have it all figured and packed for you. Would fit in a pickup box.
