Do new vehicles even come with a spare or do you have to order it with the new vehicle now. My semi's never come with a spare have to either buy a wheel and tire or carry a spare tire or hope nothing happens that I need road service.

Never bought a tractor or wagon that came with a spare tire. My last new pickup and my wife’s Jeep both came with full size spare tires. I didn’t come with a spare tire either, but my wife has been working diligently to build one. Going to take more pie to get me a full size spare tire!

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup. A while back, I had a flat tire. The spare "donut" is mounted under the pickup bed. After much messing around, I finally got the "donut" out from under the truck. It is nasty. Filthy, but the worst part is it was low on air and completely weather checked all the way around. I put it onto the truck and limped to a tire shop to have the original patched. I still have the donut in the bed of the truck but I really need to get a new tire for it.

I got a new car this year. It is a hybrid and there is no room for a spare. The battery takes up that space. It comes with an air pump and some goop to stop a leak. Pump your tire up and get to a tire shop.

Caterpillar guy- As far as I know, when it come to cars nowadays, they do not come with spares unless you special order it,they have a can of fix-a-flat thrown in the trunk somewhere. It is is so stupid.I know quite a few people that didn't realize this until they got the car and were pretty annoyed as they should be,and they ended up buying a used spare. It's just another way for the auto companies to cheap out on everything.

80% of the people driving dont know how or dont want to change a tire. 50% of those probably shouldn't.

Call roadside service...

I carry a small 12 volt air compressor in all my vehicles. The last time I had to use a spare tire was in 1983.

Times have changed. A lot.

Nowadays, besides a large portion of the population unable to change their own tires, most people carry cell phones, have "roadside assistance" from either the manufacturer or AAA, so they don't have to be responsible to get their vehicle down the road, whatever happens. We're a dying breed.

I've had to change tires on the road nearly a dozen times. Perhaps that says more for the necessity of driving on tires near end of life than of bad luck, though I've had that too with nearly new tires - one a blowout from hitting a deep water filled pothole on a dark night, and another a belt delamination making a tread bubble (another casualty of rough road). In all cases, I've been blessed to have full size spares available. Donuts are nearly always low on air, most needing inflation to 50 or 60psi to be functional. Tires mounted under the rear of pickups, are never in good shape when needed, especially where the roads are salted in winter, unless you need it in the first 4 years after it rolled off the assembly line.

My 93 Ranger still had the original spare under it when I got it this year. The underside is so rusty I can't even remove the tire.
