Question About A Prince PTO Pump

I am putting on a Prince PTO pump rated at 11 gpm. I was going to run a 1" suction hose to the pump and use a Pioneer style 1" quick-coupler on the hose so that I could take the pump off when I don't need it.
A guy told me that style of quick-coupler is going to starve the pump and will be sucking a lot of air through the pump seals and the coupler causing a lot of foaming in the hydraulic oil.
This going on a tractor using a loader. Any opinions?

No Opinion on the coupler reducing oil flow, but i did bust the center section out of a new Prince pump years ago, it was a chilly morning about 20* above and raised a big bucket of manure and then decided to raise it some more, and that's all she wrote, it was a fresh break, weather it was defective not sure but it was a clean break !!

Is your reservoir above or below the suction port? Is that rating at 540 RPM? That pump will deliver about 9.5 GPM. Do you maybe want one size larger pump. Have you thought about the Aero-Quip wing nuts for couplers?

my neighbor had a dump truck that he would take the box off and use the truck to pull trailers. to save time , he converted his hyd pump from
jic fittings to quick connect. 2nd day after converting back to dump truck, he fried his hyd pump. 3 different hyd shops had the impression
quick connect restricted suction line. quick connects probably fine on pressure side, but maybe not suction side. good luck with your project

Two good ideas mentioned here. Either the Aeroquip wing nut type or the oversized 1 1/2 truck sized quick couple. The wing nut type is used a lot on semi feed trailers that need high flow for 35 gpm oil flow. Personally I would go with the wing nut type.

Hi, an ordinary QR coupling will put a restriction in the line. There are full-flow couplings available but they are expensive. We used these couplings on Noremat reach arm mowers when I worked for them on the flail head hoses. At least go oversize to reduce potential problems.

Entirely different thought!
Plumb the pump solid to the loader, and make a bracket to hang the pump on when you need to use the PTO for something else!
HTH, YMMV, Dave
