JD1050 Axle Pin Install trouble

The bolt end of my axle pin was sheered off. It took some work but I was able to get it out. Now I'm trying to install a new one and I cant get it to budge. There are threads on both ends so I'm trying to figure out how I can hammer it in without damaging the threads. It doesn't help having to lay on the ground and hemmer at the same time. On the axle pivot pins on the big tractors like 4450, book says to put in freezer over night then quickly install. Had one chip a piece off while hammering in and went in my arm, worked itself out after awhile. Think I used a strong magnet to draw it out.

A little trick to use when freezing something like that...

Put it in a container of light oil.

The oil will insulate it, keep it cold from the freezer to the job, and help lube it at the same time.

Went and looked at the parts breakdown. Did you replace the bushings? If not rust maybe reducing the inner diameter of the bushing, not inside the bushing but on the outside of the bushing and the axle housing. Maybe get a flap disk type bit and hone the inside till the pin will go through. chris

I had heard about using heat like a torch. I did put an old socket on it and got it to go in a little.
