Clutch headacke

I have a 66 IH Industrial loader/backhoe & after changing motor oil & sitting for 3 weeks the clutch would not disengage trans.Everything is working from pedal through throw-out bearing & when starter is removed you can see fingers of clutch releasing. My tractor doesn't have a TA set up just 5 forward gears & a reverser.I have been in the auto repair business for over 40 years & have seen clutch discs rust to the flywheel or to the trans input shaft & made disengagement very difficult or would not disengage at all but looking through bottom inspection hole all looks VG..no rust on splines & everything working as it is suppose to from what I can see.I have also sprayed a can of penetrating oil onto clutch soaking it over a few weeks just to see any difference. No change.Once in gear tractor will spin tires & dig dirt if held in place with no clutch slippage even when clutch is disengaged with clutch pedal.Am I missing something??? Any help would be much appreciated.

I used to have a 3414 loader and the clutch stuck while sitting several months for repairs. It had a cover under the flywheel where I could reach the pressure plate bolts. Took out the glow plugs and unbolted the pressure plate working around and spaced it out with wood blocks. Then pried the disc off the flywheel and got in there with solvent soaked rag on a stick. Tedious but it worked. Would not break loose with the brakes or pushing on a big tree.

Just some food for thought. Disc in backwards or pilot bearing to tight on shaft/stuck so it drives. Needs adjust ment. I know you said it all appears to be working ok.

If you can get your hand in the inspection door, you could remove 5 of the 6 bolts holding the PP in the Flywheel well. Leave one loose but attached at the top. take off linkage and move the TO bearing as far back as possible, and pivot the PP out to get at the disc to get it free. Jim

Ya this was what I was thinking as the couple of cars I worked on needed trans removed to get disc loosened.I was hoping I just missed something as unit worked no problem for 30 plus years since I bought it in 1977,until it sat for a few months.I didn't think it would have stuck that bad, that fast...but who knows.I was hoping someone had the same trouble & could give me ideas.I thought of loosing PP & trying to loosen disc too. From what I could see with starter removed clutch disc looks like it is in a machined indentation of the flywheel.I had bought a electronic manual of my unit to examine further but pics not as good as I needed to see how it actually is.Anyone know if disc actually sits in a recess of the flywheel? Just one royal pain. Thanks for your input too.

No disc in correct as it has never been out since I have owned machine since 1977.TO Bearing moving correctly & is pushing PP fingers in more than enough to release disc.I also took all end play out of linkage to make sure I got as much release as I could on disc & still NG.Thanks for your reply too.

Clutch lining came apart and fell down locking the clutch. I have had it happen before.

I have had a stuck clutch many times over the years tractors, trucks, jeeps. I have never had one yet that would not break loose by just driving it with the clutch pedal held down. Sometimes I adjusted all slack out. It works best if you can get up in highest gear. Goose it and let off. Hit brakes. Might take a while. I think the heat from the engine getting to the flywheel helps. If it is just rusted stuck I bet it will come loose if you give it time.

Also it might help to start it and let run for an hour or more to give time for flywheel to warm up unless it is very cold where you are it might not get warm.

If that were the problem I should have noticed some unusual goings on when I moved machine to where I was going to change the oil.It worked perfect. Then I changed oil restarted to check for any leaks & it began to rain so I left machine in that spot for at least 1 month as weather was rainy a lot & I just not had time to move machine back to where I usually park it.When I was to move it back is when I had problem right after I started it.Machine had never made any unusual noises either just could not disengage clutch.I did move machine back & tried to get loose by jacking it up with 1 stab & then dropping it but to no avail. Thanks for your input though.

I have received some good replies but as I stated the manual for my machine doesn't show good pics of flywheel.Does anybody, by chance, have any good pics of the bare flywheel so I can see if my unit has a recessed area where the clutch disc fits into.Again my unit is a IH 2606 Industrial loader backhoe with a C-221 6 cylinder gas engine 5 speed trans with reverser & no torque amplifier.Thanks.
