Kinze vs Deere

Anybody know what Jon and Deere are feuding about now? I heard he got a letter from Deere. I think he likes tweeking their nose once in a while.

If I remember this correctly Kinze brought their latest and greatest planter unannounced into a field that was being planted with Deeres latest and greatest planter. The farmer with the Deere agreed to a side by side comparison. Kinze claimed the Kinze planter did a better job. Kinze put it out on the media and Deere fluffed its feathers over false claims. Someone else who knows the details better can correct me if I am wrong.

I had the opportunity to go on the Kinze tour 7 or 8 years ago, and then Jon took us on a tour of his private collection. Impressive doesn't begin to describe it. At that time he was just finishing up the twin Cummins 4 wheel drive tractor. He said that Deere had sent him a cease and desist letter over it. Jon said that he liked to poke the bear once in a while just to let them know he was still there. I just saw a short harvest video from Kinze on Facebook and they mentioned a letter from Deere.

I'm guessing there will be feuds and fights over planter units as long as there can be a way to change planting from now into the future. The White planter is hard to beat with any of them and the row units are pretty simple. I don't care for the going back to the old plastic plates though. Filling individual boxes is a pain on all of those box per row planters. I've wondered why I could not just put w bigger box over it and push the seed by some means to each row box without having to go to the cost of the newer central fill planters.

I went shopping for a new corn planter in 2005. Kinze dealer told me I was in luck. Big Kinze sale going on. Summer of 2005. Order the planter at a discount now and pay for it up front. Planter will be delivered in April of next year. I told them I'd think about it. My next stop was John Deere. For essentially the same planter, John Deere was $4000 less and all I had to do was put $1000 down and pay the rest when the planter came in. An absolute no brainer. John Deere delivered my planter in Feb of 2006 and I have been very happy with it. It plants just as good as a Kinze, in fact it looks just like a Kinze only in green. Maybe that's what the lawsuit was about.
