There is a disturbance in the force

Did not realize the 1818 skid loader is wider than the 1816. She's JUST a bit too wide to fit in the barn doors.

Guess I'll be modifying a couple doors this weekend.

How wide is that bucket? I have an ASV mini-track loader with a 4' bucket. I assumed your new machine was about the same. But there's one smaller?

Once you get the doors modified, it’s a little bit more capable and stable and useful loader. A little pain getting there, but years of better off anyhow!

I watched a 3 Stooges video on how to widen a door. Might not be the best way to widen the door but it was entertaining.

My NH is also 42 inches wide, and it is tight to put it through a 48 inch door fram, as the swinging door, as the door narrows the available space a bit. Being as how you need to modify your entrance , go as wide as is practical, like 60 inches if possible. There is always going to be material over hanging the sides of your skid loader bucket, when cleaning out pens. Your barn looks to have nice high ceilings, so clearance over head shouldn’t be a problem. And if you do go to large round bales, having a 60 inch wide door will make it better to put 48 in wide bales of hay and straw through. I can put bales either in from ground level, or drop 4x4 bales from the hay lift up stairs. Nice to have the option

Is there enough space past the doorway to turn the skid loader after it through the door or will extra door width be needed to start turning while still within the doorway? y

Is just the bucket to wide or is the tread width of the machine to wide also? I would think it would be easier to make the bucket narrower then to make the doors wider. I mean there's only one bucket but X numbers of doors.

About 50 years ago we went through all that and made them wide enough to get a regular loader tractor in the end of the barn to clean out pens with. Never looked back on it. Door was made about as wide as the pen was. Just had to work out under the feed trough and the water tank in both pens. Would do that between loads.

With your welding and repair skills, I would think you would just cut the skid steer down the middle and narrow it up so it fits through the door. LOL

The tires would fit as they are an inch or so narrower on each side. The doors will be easy this because they were framed to be 48" and were narrowed to 42", so I'll just take out the filler and make bigger doors. I will only need to do two, one side and one end door. The west door into the cattle yard is a double wide door already.

Lol, actually thought of narrowing the bucket, also doable. But read my other Response
