Basket Case

I recently purchased what I was told to be a Case VAI. It was a started restoration. They started at the rear and went forward
till they got to the motor and it is on a pallet in assorted boxes and assorted containers. The plate for the serial # is gone. It
has a solid cast iron non adjustable front end with 16in" truck tires. It has what looks like a homemade hitch on the rear. It
does have the 3point arms, it has a slight bend backwards on the shifting lever. I was looking for more information in identifying
what I have and determining what motor is in it.

Here's a start, see the link below. Lots more plain VA's and VAC's than the industrial ones. What makes you think yours is a VAI ???? If the engine is an overhead valve, then it is definitely a VA of some kind, the earlier and shorter lived V's looked very similar (but shared very few parts) but they had a flathead Continental engine in them. Not sure if the serial numbers are stamped any where else on those or not. Can you post a photo?

Thanks for the info on the link. I'm going off of what I was told the model was when I purchased it and from what I have read about them in the research I have done, which is very little as of yet. Mostly the front tires as the wheels look original and are the 16" original truck style tires.

A photo would certainly help. Not sure if you can post one or not. The 16" front tire size seems wrong, I see the Tractor Data specs say 15" which I would think make sense for a tractor of that size. Sixteen inch tires would have normally showed up on bigger tractors. Industrial models in most tractor brands were often cast iron wheels on the fronts, pressed steel for regular agricultural models. I had a model V standard front years ago that had cast iron 15" front wheels though and it was an ag model.

that sounds like a later VAI,, Eagle hitch came to the line in 1949,, the engine is a CASE 124 the rear tires should be 24" the fronts would have been 16" a pic of the rear cast wheels and front axle will tell me for sure if its a VA or VAI

CH, you have a lot to learn about CASE VAIs How many have you been around??? dblettlrsn, Post your question down on the CASE-DB forum where you will get knowledgeable answers.----------Loren

Case Guy ..... I didn't realize you were one the cranky guys here at YT but obviously you are. Please enlighten me with your wealth of knowledge as to my shortfalls in Case knowledge. By the way, I don't remember claiming I was an expert.

It just irritates me when someone comes on here such as you, without real life experience, about certain tractors, and makes statements that misguides someone new, asking a question. Your reference is also known for inaccuracies. If you are not well versed on a certain tractor, don't comment!! ----------------Loren

Case Guy ...... So now I have no life experience .... I'm not an expert like yourself, very few would qualify for that status, but I have a bit of experience. You seem to be avoiding my simple question. What sorts of misleading information have I passed along? And if I did, maybe something to do with front wheel size or what they are made of, you make it sound like it's a big deal when really it is not much of anything. Except to a grumpy guy looking for an argument. Relax and take a deep breath .....

Also need to add tractor data is Wrong as often as it is right so a crap shoot there, like the poster below posted from there was indeed incorrect as much of what i have seen posted from the site is,, like Loren said post on the CASE page if you want to get much more correct and complete information, there are sure some on this page who know also but its best to get the info from the appropriate brand page here on YT as here it is more just a general think tank so to speak in my opinion, some really great folks here on all pages just some with more hands on knowledge than others,, many of us sadly have all but stopped posting here which is a sad thing, I post maybe once a week if lucky now days where it used to be dozens of times a day
cnt

Thank-you for the info. New to the page and did not realize there where specific pages for certain brands. I will try to get a couple of pics put up so it will be easier to see what I have or don't.

Here are a couple of pictures of my VAI tractors that you can maybe use for reference.
I have noticed differences in all of mine, maybe related to year or customer desire, not sure.

i Like that loader on yours,, I have a couple VAI's and a VAIW the one that is running was a State mowing tractor, belly sickle mower and the 20 mph road gearing

I have the two that run, one has a Profit trip bucket loader and the other has a Lull self leveling hydraulic bucket. One has 4 bolt rear wheels and the other uses 5. Front axles are different on both of these plus the one on the parts pile. They are damn tough loaders and lift a lot but they will completely wear a guy out with their Armstrong steering. Hardly ever use them any more, been contemplating removing the loader off of the one and fixing it up as a straight tractor for tractor drives. A long ways down the list, to many irons in the fire right now. Seems as though they may have different steering gearbox’s also. Your hiway mowing tractor sounds like a neat tractor.

I have a number of pics of it but cant seem to find them at the moment so here are a couple shots of it in a shed I found I will look some more,,
