2140 Loading gravel

Some might remember my posts here this summer about the leaking bucket cylinder on the 146 loader on my JD 2140. I gave it a good test earlier this week loading some gravel for one of my trails. The new Princess Auto "Shur Lift" cylinder sems to work great at a fraction of the cost of a JD original part. I was a little surprised to see just how dry it is in the gravel pit. Dry and dusty all the way into the pit. Guess it indicates how dry a year it has been here. Some video of the loading process. You can see the big bison bull near the end of the video as I was working near the fence.

I've had good luck with Princess Auto cylinders. They can also be modified to replace some odd-ball types. I built a trunnion mount cylinder for a little IHC utility tractor using an generic PA unit. It was NLA from the dealer, but we altered an off-the-rack unit for less than the price of a worn out used part.
Check the distributor mechanical advance weights on the R160. If they are seized up, they can contribute to fuel mixture issues. I ran into that problem on a school bus with a 345 V8 on propane. Fixed the weights, and a rich condition went away. Old bus ran uphill in fifth gear again.
That's nice road gravel you've got there. Wish I had some like that, but it might be a little far to haul from Sask. to BC. unc

Good to hear more postiive feedback on Princess auto cylinders. I've heard others say the same but this is the first time I've tried one. Could used a set on the old Massey as well. Had the seals replaced several times but they don't last long before they leak again. I'm hoping to open up that Holley carb and get the idle circuit working like it should.
