Ford 3930 jumping out of high range first gear

Raking hay today with my Ford in high range 1st gear and it keeps jumping out of gear. When I held the gearshift lever, I could feel the lever almost pushed at times. Finally I went back to low range 4th gear which has a noticeable whine, but stays in gear! Any ideas what might be going wrong or what might be in danger of happening?

Does the shift linkage have little balls with a spring behind it? If so, sometimes you can stretch the springs to provide more tension. I made a little stick with notches to hold against the shift lever on my tractor, but mine is different than yours. The stick keeps in from jumping out of gear but doesn't keep a constant pressure on the lever which would not be good. Jumping out of gear can be caused by the bushing getting worn, which causes the gear to wobble a little bit which knocks it out of gear.

Ok you have the 8x8 synchro shuttle trans that was built by Kubota, good trans if serviced properly.
Have you ever serviced the suction screen in the bottom of the trans?
Jumping out of 1st could be a worn synchronizer or something is worn allowing to much end play in the shafts, the noise in 4th makes me think a bearing is going bad.
