Have a old manure spreader question for a local sheep dude, he wonders if anyone knows the
basic W5 questions about them {who/what/when/where/why they disappeared].
Its a 90 bushel capacity spreader with a PTO/90 degree angle/belt drive to the actual thrower unit at the rear, sitting for years so he needs belts of course, he hopes to find a part number for them, but...
I haven't seen it myself, so a measuring of the pulleys will be need to be done.
Tks

The first thing to check is the apron chain more than a ything else. Get all of the mechanism that makes the apron move freed up. Bearings might be bad in the front and rear cross shafts the apron runs on. Manure and rain and inactivity dont do the bearings any good. Used engine oil spread across the floor will help the apron chain pull easier through the first few loads until the underside of the slats and floor get shined up. Run a half load or less through it first in case something goes wrong with the apron. If the apron chain breaks you or he gets to pitch it off by hand.

The OSHA unapproved way to pitch it back out is to tie the steering wheel. Put the tractor in low gear at a dead idle. The slower the low gear the better. Get off the tractor climb into the spreader with a pitchfork in your hand and start pitching.

yep, that stuff needs TLC also, should be interesting to see how bad it is later on,
but not my problem if he loads it way to soon..:).
maybe it could be called.. "OKEY I got 90 bushels to pitch....."

that's interesting to know he owns an orphan piece of machinery..:)
who knows how it ever arrived in this area, modern stuff back then when a great
grand dad bought it..
tks
