O-Rings Vs Square Rings

I am rebuilding a hydraulic valve block and I am in a pinch to get it back together. It uses Square rings between valve segments. Will O-Rings work? If so for how long?

Thanks.

Likely long enough to make you wish you went and got the right ones. How would anyone know how long they will last?

Not that it will make a difference but you give little info: what this on, type of valve block, pressure, temperature, etc.. Usually O-rings either won't fill the space, or they over fill it and squeeze out between the blocks holding those apart leading to leaks. Then again sometimes they will work and get by for a while.

That said sometimes you have to try something and do what isn't right to get things going. Using O-rings is up to you. You know the ramifications of what happens if you wait for the right parts, we don't.

They might if they fit close enough.

Since it's a static application the fit is not that crucial.

It's up to you, not like it's for a customer expecting warranty. I would probably give it a try, just weigh the time involved if it doesn't work.

Have you tried finding the quad rings online? Could probably have them in 3-4 days.

I have used O rings on Ford hyd valves, and lines ( NAA tractor) work most of the time. If they do not leak at first should last OK. joe

On the ford aux hydraulic valves, if the two flat orings are not used, it will either leak or ooze every time. The valves just under the seat that is...
