Glennster beat me to it, but what are these they were so bright I saw them from about seventy yards away. This year has been a good one for fungi.

Those are also sulfur shelf, or chicken of the woods. Colors vary but are usually bright orange and yellow.

Funny how every different part of the country has it's own "chicken of the woods". When I lived in the Oregon cascades and before in the Oregon coast range, the chanterelle mushroom was called the chicken of the woods. From doing reading on the interwebs, there are a ton of mushrooms nicknamed that! Not arguing or anything, I just thought it was amusing!

Thanks SweetFeet,
like I said the color caught my eye.
I never have eaten any, but would like to try them one day with someone who knows how to fix em.

(quoted from post at 06:55:44 10/01/20) And how many of them are safe to eat and how many of them are not?

Mushrooms? I wouldn't want to venture a guess either way, there are countless types of mushrooms a person may find. The ones pictures here are perfectly safe, and quite good. Also pretty much impossible to misidentify.

There are lots of ways people like to eat those mushrooms. My favorite is pretty simple. Wash, cut into small nugget size pieces, coat in flour and fry. Also good sauteed and eaten with pasta.

The only wild fungi I've eaten are morels... and I'm not crazy about their texture.

Chard looks nice. We akways eat the whole stems too, though I cut them up a bit. I have a bit of it to harvest yet today... it is supposed freeze tonight.

I love the color of the greens. Really like them with some pork and onions. I had/have a great recipe for greens in peanut sauce, but developed an allergy to nuts so now it is just greens.
I understand the texture thing about mushrooms, that seems to be an issue for a lot of folks. Myself I love them and have eaten many types everywhere from a double-wide to a five star. Next topic is Truffles lol
No frost yet in Virginia, how far north are you?
