'Free' WD9.

My friend Delmar gave me his old WD9. He is the original owner. So that makes me the second owner. :) Delmar's dad bought this WD9 new for Delmar when he was 8
years old in 1952.They had a dryland wheatfarm in western Nebraska. At 8 years,he was too small to step on/operate the foot clutch pedal. So this tractor has
the optional hand clutch lever.Works just like a 2 cylinder JohnDeere. After Del got out of the service in the early/mid 60s,he married a girl from BlackHawk,CO.
They settled on her family's ranch at 9500 ft.(her greatgrandfather homesteaded the place). The tractor was used up there for a few years till it got parked on
the side of the mountain for maybe 40 year. The ranch was sold and the tractor was moved to the new place at Salida,CO.Sadly,Mrs Del passed away from cancer less
than a year after the move.Eventually he remarried, the new ranch was sold. The WD9 needed a new home.So,he(wD9) lives here now.I got him started yesterday after
almost 40 years of nonuse.. Sounds pretty good, just needs some TLC. Kind of a neat story.

neat, i always like the history story. must have been sitting in dry land for the engine and pump not to be stuck. you got the prize. get a picture.

i also have a 1951 WD9 that has only 3300 hrs. on it an old guy had it and i bought it from him in 1988. its in nice shape and starts and runs really good. maybe its time to find another good home for it.

Boy,am I confused,I thought deltSteve was previously deltared,now they're both here?

Neat story though,I always love the stories ,thanks for sharing.

It's always nice to get something free. You said you got (him) started. You have a very rare tractor, it being a male tractor. Just about every one here refers their tractor as a her, meaning female. Just a little humor this morning nothing serious. Stan

DeltaRed and Delta Steve are one in the same. The same person.
My old computer went crazy and lost the old imfo.It would not let me go back as DeltaRed, so Delta Steve was 'born"
.However my phone still has me as DeltaRed.The home computer has me as DeltaSteve.Confused?Me too.

Great story. My great grandpa farmed with a distallite burning W9 then traded it in for a WD9. The hand clutch is mostly what you see on them around here. Hardly ever see a foot clutch. Even the newer ones had hand clutches like 650s and I even know were there is a 660 with a hand clutch.

I also started driving tractor(s) when I was 8 years old. We had a Minneapolis Moline. I'm not sure of the model but it had a hand clutch on it. I was too short to operate a foot clutch reliably, so I was put on the MM. I loved it and I think that I was helpful to my dad and the hired man for pulling wagons that we used to load the corn shocks and the square hay bales onto. I'm a very old man now, but I still go back (in my mind) to those good days growing up on a farm.

The only thing I ever found that was free was trouble I guess that's not free after all. That was a great gift. Randy

I would bet the moderators here could get you squared away with one username. BTW, I have always enjoyed your posts.

When I bought my 706 used from a dealer years ago I asked him if he new of anyone that had a cab for sale. He said there's an old Year-a-round off an Oliver laying out back you can have for free. Seeing as I had worked for Hiniker cab factory and designed cab mounts in r&d I new I could make the mounts for my IH. It needed the interior foam and half the glass and of course paint it from green to red. I live 3 miles from Year-a-round factory so thought I could get the glass from them. They said no don't have. You will have to have a glass company cut it. Long story short, time I was done my "free" cab cost me $1100.

The summer I turned 7, Dad thought if I was going to be with him all the time riding on his tractor, a farmall M, I should be getting something done. He bought a LA Case for me because he felt it would be impossible to fall off. I run that tractor for two years. Loved it. No turning brakes or power steering and hand clutch. Sometime in 1959 it dropped a valve and Dad traded it for a new MF 65. What a joy that was. Then in 1960 he bought a new Farmall 460 for me to run and my sister got to help on the 65. Dad was happy with his M Farmall.

I need to figure out if mine is "him or her", it's also a 52 with hand clutch, they are fun tractors and big and clumsy. Free is way better also!
