John Deere 2010 differential

To get the correct mesh position for the pinion to the bevel gear, the manual says to use John Deere tool # JD205. Where can I find this tool or a good work around?

It's complicated because the gears mesh at an angle
in three dimensions. There are a lot of YouTube videos
on setting the gear clearance on a hypoid type differential.

Hypoid setting tools (usually: A spring scale to set carrier preload, a dial indicator to set backlash, and Prussian Blue paste to set the wipe pattern. It is a 3-D exercise. In a car or truck differential the access is easy, (or much easier than in a disassembled tractor. Unless you are experienced, I would pay someone to do it. Slight misadjustment is noisy a bit more out of perfect, and it is split again and find broken parts. Jim

I am unfamiliar with the 2010 procedure, but I know the 4010 sized tractors have a number on the trans case, a number on the pinion. Subtract those two and another constant and thats the amount of shims to put under the pinion bearing. The ring gear shims are set by backlash and a certain amount of preload set by shims, pinion preload is set the same way. Set internationally loose, measure the end play and adjust shims to get the proper preload.

Is the JD205 tool for measuring? Ill have to check my board and see if I have one.
