305 Bush hog

What is the easiest way to get the bolts that holds the blades on. Scare to heat it very much. Not wanting temper out of the metal. Try hammer and punch. No luck. Broke one of the blade.still have not found it lol.
Thanks Donald

With the stump jumper pan setting on a solid support, with a good size punch (2" driff) hit it a 12 pound sledgehammer.

Be prepared to replace bolts. Sledgehammer is what it's going to take.

I have a 307 that has had the blades replaced a couple of times. Used a long cheater pipe and a huge pipe wrench with the big socket that Bush Hog used to sell and lots of penetrating juice. If that doesn't work then torch the old bolts get new ones and use anti-seize. You will be glad you did.

Different critter but my 6 foot King Kutter came with the bolts welded in place, company said it was for safety and I should buy replacements from them. I used my angle grinder to remove the welds and used the bolts again, 6 years ago and nothing has fallen off yet.

mine isn't a 305 but what I did the first time was to buy 1 bolt and 1 nut. I threaded the nut on just enough to hold it in place and welded it to the bolt. To remove the blade I remove that nut, thread my welded pair on and use the biggest sledge I own. Basically, the welded pair created punch with a really big end and the nut protects the other bolts threads. I hope that isn't too confused.

If your talking getting the nut off a good impact wrench or 3/4 drive breaker bar with a several foot long cheater pipe. To get the bolt out of the blade holder a sledge hammer.

I worked for a dealer for a short time. We used an impact wrench to get the nuts off, usually the 1/2" but sometimes used a 1". As far as driving the bolts out of the stump jumper, usually used a big spud bar and smacked down on the bolt. Support under the stump jumper will help. Most times it did not hurt the bolt, but sometimes it did, and the bolts got replaced. The bolts have an alignment key and are tapered. Woods and John Deere have a way better blade bolt set up. Mark.

Thanks for the reply. Had to torch them out. Used the gator chain on 3/4 breaker bar. Nut broke lose. Beat with 20 lbs sledge hammer. Would not move. Than had to heat the side of Bush hog. bent in new blades hitting. Fun day. Now on to the model 12 bush hog. Bad PTO shaft.
