Wiring question

What gauge is the wire running from the coil to the distributor on a Ferguson TO30? I bought a wiring harness, but that one was not included.

A 14 gauge wire is clearly big enough, and of a sixe that is wasy to fit terminals and solder. Use shrink tubing over the soldered connections. Jim

I agree with the other fine gents and as the current is likely 4 amps or less at such a short distance 14 Gauge would suffice and its just that bigger wire has more mechanical strength and fine stranded copper can withstand vibration better

i, John.....good thing you 3 guys are not wiring Boeings....they would have to remove some seats if all the wiring was so oversized. :)

If only 2 small strands, what is one seat compared to a wiring fire that causes a uncontrolled encounter with terrain? Jim

ith miles & miles of wiring on those big boys, believe me, they look to save every pound, even down to the selection of insulation material type & thickness. Sometimes a bit scary.

Hey but were not wiring Boeings !!! It's NOT ONLY wire ampacity and voltage drop I would consider but the MECHANICAL STRENGTH. While 16
Gauge would more then handle 4 amps of current, I would still use 14 Gauge wire for the short distance from the coil to distributor since
such a teeny tiny hardly measurable weight difference in say 14 versus 16 gauge wire doesn't matter in a 3000 pound tractor. Often more
weight is added to a tractor for increased traction anyway, even MORE reason to use heavier wire lol

Take care, its always fun chatting with you

I put a smiley face on it! I guess, for some, I needed to say Ha, HA, Ha, laugh, laugh, laugh!
