How to pull saplings out of ground. I have tried wrapping chains & nylon straps breaks hooks on straps. Chains pull off. Is there a better way to do it. thanks for yours reply

I use a Brush Grubber. Works good for me.

You ask a mighty big question! What do you consider a sapling? What kind of tree, what kind of soil, wet of dry? I use a 3/8 inch cable with a ring as a noose. Works most of the time!

I consider a sapling anything that my farmall 300 can pull out. I would rather pull them out than cut off. Some of them the chain will work, if tractor won't pull I cut them off. Some of them I can not get chain to stay on that tractor is capable of pulling out.

There is an apparatus that fits on a three point hitch or replaces a bucket on the front of the tractor that grabs the sapling and pulls it out. Ellis

i bought a grabber from Northern, some of the larger I used a old rim ( chain over the rim,)that was laying around. That way you pull up & out the side.

There is short chain with teeth on the market made for gripping saplings/trees. I think it's called a 'Brush grubber/.

Wrap the chain around several times. Only making one wrap won't do it.

A small link chain works better, and the smaller the better too until the chain isn't strong enough. I have some chains made with 1/4" wire and links a bit over an inch long. The Super H can't break it, but I got one chain from Dad that his M, now My M, stretched every link so tight the chain wouldn't bend. The bigger 5/16" and 3/8" chains won't grip brush and saplings at all.
If you get a big coarse tooth 12 inch long Sawz-All blade you can cut the roots off below the ground surface. Another good thing about saplings is they rot out faster than BIG tree trunks.

Use a smaller linked chain as has been suggested and then use a "half-hitch" around the the sapling. It needs to be pulled straight up, if possible, for best results. This is the best method that I have found.

Wrap the chain or strap around a couple of time.
Make sure the end you are pulling on crosses the other wraps.
As you pull the chain will pinch on the other wraps making the wraps tighter and tighter as you pull harder and harder.

Just cut the tree down and treat the stump with Tordon. That will kill the roots and there won't be any regrowth.

Mow them down with a bush hog then disk and drag or just keep mowing with the brush hog you will eventually get rid of them

Wrap the chain several times, will catch better. Does your tractor have a 3 point hitch? If so hook as short as you can, pull up on lift and BACK up will pull better and no front end coming up.

Loader bucket and small ones can be dug out faster if they are just box elder or some junk tree like that . Then pull the dirt back if you don't try to push the tree way out the dirt will fall close to the spot as you dump it then the tree can be pushed by the roots to sort the dirt out of it. Backhoe or excavator or a dozer all work the best with the least damage to equipment. If you cut them off then spray with 24D in the spring will get a lot of them without the nonsense.

I have a C-hook. The chain slips through a slot and allows tge chain to tighten up on whatever your pulling. I use it with the 3 point hitch to pull upward. Works good.

Use a choker cable. Get a rim, preferably a rear tractor rim, choker around base of sapling then up and over the rim. You're pulling forward and upwards which gives ya leverage. I just went thru this with 15 saplings to big to bushhog down.
