Farmall C would not charge even if I polarized the generator. Install new VR and no charge shows on amp gauge so I polarized now with new VR
and it is now charging fine. But after half hour run time shut off tractor and an hour later started tractor shows no charge.
polarized it and it's charging again. why would it not start to charge on it's own? why would I need to polarize it each time I start it?
any ideas guys?

You should not need to polarize more then once. If the bat, and arm terminals are jumped with a #10 wire making a good spark, that should do it perfectly.
Polarizing is done only with it shut off, and stopped. Jim

You may have to clean the contacts in the new regulator with a dollar bill. Good luck. Many folks have reported troubles with aftermarket regulators. The brushes in the generator may be stuck or getting short.

About a year ago I had opened the generator and cleaned armature and brush's and put new bushings in.
Being it does charge It is working.
