IHC 5000 Swather Questions

I ended up with an IHC 5000 Diesel swather and am wondering if they are a decent machine. This one runs good. Also, the diesel engine looks like it might fit in a tractor. Since it runs soo good, tbat might be a better option. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks - Bob

I can’t see from the picture is it an auger feed. or a drapper? And did it come with a conditioner? My swather doesn’t have a cab, which is sometimes a good thing, sometimes a bad thing. Does your machine have AC in the cab ?

Hi Bruce. The machine has a 14' auger head with steel crimpers. It has AC but I would assume it to need some work.

The 4000/5000 were rather popular around here for a little while. NH & Deere took over the market in the mid '90s & they all disappeared. Not sure what happened there. They are a rather light machine & they were made in Canada. Don't know if parts availability became an issue because of that, after the merger, or not. Suspect it might have something to do with it. I recall the guy who rented out my grandparents farm bought a new 4000 & really liked it. Can't remember what it was replaced with shortly before he retired. I do remember riding in it & thought it was quite the machine. The header lift pedal always made quite the clunk when you pushed it down. Made me jump a few times until I got used to it. Still have the manual for it somewhere. Didn't go with the machine as they couldn't find it & the buyer already had one for his other 4000.

Is that a single auger header?

I have one and the German 236 is right for the motor, not sure were you are at but if you are going to part it out I many be interested in the head if the pan metal is in good shape. you still can get parts as I needed the left side shaft as I striped the splines on mine. I enjoy cutting hay with mine. let me know.
thanks
