grease guns

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a high quality grease gun. I've purchased guns from John Deere, Bomgaars and fleetfarm and they have all been junk.

Not a lot to go wrong with a grease gun.

I've had them from name brand to Chinese cheap, and never worn one out!

The most common problem is air pockets in the grease cartridge. Just have to be ready to bleed it when it stops working.

The best method I've found is to take the hose off, hold my finger over the hole as a check valve, and full stroke pump the handle until grease comes out.

I never tighten the hose, just hand tight so it can easily be removed to bleed it.

Bought an original, unused Alemite grease gun & matching bucket pump off of eBay for $27 about a decade ago. Instructions were printed in '56, Alemite said it wasn't sold any later than '68.... at least by them. Works great! Did find out that the pump fits a 2.5 gal bucket that's no longer made & is just a hair too small for the 5 gal pails. Bought an empty 2.5 gal metal bucket off of eBay & use that for what I scrape out of the 5's when they're about empty. Also emptied the last 4 cartridges of grease in there as I am done with that system. That bucket gets stored in the basement so the grease doesn't go funny right away. That's my backup for when the big bucket is empty, or I'll take from it to fill grease cups. The other thing I use to fill grease cups is the overflow from the breather on the bottom of the aforementioned grease gun. Quite the handy setup.

ost people seem to agree that the Alemite grease guns are the best. Amazon and a host of other suppliers sell them.

I have had the SAME grease gun now for going on fifty four years and only god knows how many ten packs of grease have been thru it. It has greased all my farm equipment , my semi's, dozers, track hoes, back hoes and everything that needed greased before it left the shop . Now it has had many hoses and end put on over the years and as for care WElllllllllll it has rolled around the bed of the pick up for i don't know how long slept in the sleeper of the semi's been kicked dropped and throwen a few times and it still works just fine . No battery to worry about going dead half way thru greasing so as long as my arm does not fall off we are good to go.

The last construction company I worked for supplied Alemite grease guns.! They were good, but I did wear out a few over the years. Usually going through around 15 tubes per week. I have also bought the cheapest gun from tractor supply. Worked great till I ran over it with an excavator. I currently have a Lincoln from Napa. It’s ok and works good, but it is high pressure and low volume. Takes 2 pumps to equal one pump of a normal gun. I also splurged and bought a Dewalt 20v lithium grease gun from tractor supply. 200 bucks with battery, charger, and case. I love it ! When greasing something like an excavator, or buster it really cuts down the time needed to grease. Biggest thing I wear out is tips. Seems like a lot of them are junk. One more thing to help prevent air locks is to store the grease correctly with the right end up which is the end that goes into the gun first when you load it. Store grease up and down not laying on its side.

300jk... You sure taught me a really good point about grease tubes that I never considered. About storing them standing up and not laying down. Laying down they have that chance of developing an air pocket inside and later leading to issues. Thanks for bringing that to my attention anyway. Most probably knew that already. Wingnut

I have a Dewalt battery powered grease gun and love it. Grease doesn't come out too slow or too fast. It's easy to change out the tubes.

ya, so what happens that your calling them junk. just make sure there is no air in it. what can wear out, its greased all the time.lol.

Dad has had a Lincoln lever for decades close to 40 years or more. It is our bulk fill gun. I have a cheap black grease gun from Deere with the pistol operation. The Deere has tubes and I have an old not sure what with cornhead grease in it. I like the bulk best.Just not real handy for greasing things miles away. That is where the tubes come in. Like 300JK said the tubes need to be stored on end with the plastic cap up. The air will not get in them that way and work fine then.
Dad liked the Lincoln for the better lip on the plunger you have to reverse to use bulk grease. He had some others that would leak by so Lincoln was the gun.

I have a John Deere TY26689. It has two ranges for either high volume or high pressure. It seems better built than the Lincoln or cheaper Alemite guns we've had. Alemite may have made this one and badged it JD...

I've had a Alemite 500 for at least 40 yrs., never had a issue and it has had a many a tube of grease thru it. I think they still make it....
