Michigan drivers license restriction 37

About a week ago I posted a question as to what a Michigan DL restriction 37 is.
Was on my renewal form mailed by the state. Got my appointment and went in today. Asked the clerk what it was without missing a beat, she said I couldn't drive out of state...now for explanation, I have held a commercial drivers license for many years. Got it when I was driving a large passenger van for local hospital, to ferry patients, especially those in wheelchairs. (Not required now, but I kept it up anyway.) My license allows big trucks, busses-passengers, and air brakes. Just not semis. Restriction says I am not good out of state in the big trucks.

Just a note, Michigan SOS is by appointment only. TRY AND GET ONE! I pounded the state website for days. Finally hit gold Friday morning. Got a next day, today, Tuesday. They have next day, and two future selections. One is for those expire before end of September, other in far beyond. Neither was a possible - nothing, never, dont even ask. That said, I spoke to the guy at the door who was checking off customers. He said the best chance is to check in on line for next days, when they open them up at 8:00 am.

Lots of people wait until the very end of the month or even the week after their license or tags expire to start their renewals. Then they are in a total panic. Add in being the day after they were closed for the Labor Day Holiday and long lines/queues today are inevitable. Things are much smoother at the middle of a month.

my wife inherited her late father's car. he passed the end of July. in mid August she applied for an appointment with Travis County (Austin) Tax/DMV to change the title. the earliest appt, was Oct. 3. when we were in Fredericksburg, pop. 10,000, Gillispe Co., we went to the tax office and were second in line and out the door in 20 minutes.

Very orderly, maybe two other customers. I came in 10 minutes early as requested. Door keeper checked me in, clerk was ready for me. Was in and out before my 10:00 appointment actually was due. Less than 10 minutes! This was my turn for a new photo, and apply for enhanced DL. They never even asked for my documents, birth certificate. Etc. Said I was already on file from previous licenses.

Isn't it wonderful?! And the Michigan secretary of state campaigned on the promise to reduce wait times at all locations to 15 Mins. Even before the chyna v!rus the waits were were often an hour or more where I am. Only two of four locations left in my town. When folks found out about an office in a small town about 20 mins away they swamped it. I had to drive 45 mins to next town to get an apt to renew my license. Next appt was in November and that was in August!

My daughter turned 21 in April, so needed the new adult license. They were closed, and told her to just explain it to any officer who pulled her over. She worried a lot about it, and got an early appointment when they finally reopened. The only time she even tried to buy alcohol they refused, despite knowing her personally. The clerk was afraid of legal ramifications.

Hi Ray, I bought a utility trailer a month ago and can't get it registered until December, I also live in Michigan.

They used to have two locations within 12 miles of us. Now I have a choice of three, all at least half an hour drive.
ONLINE IS ok for routine transactions, I renewed license plates that way, will see when they come in the mail. New registrations, enhanced licenses, new license photos, all require a in person visit. I know why the appointments only is the rule, but it is providing a whole bunch of problems.
