Perfect fall day for making firewood

The past few afternoons I have been going up to the woods with my B2150 Kubota with 3pt skidding arch and dropping dead and disabled trees. I got about 4 cord skidded to one of the landings in the woods and blocked up.

Today I had my helper Dustin today so we made a 1-1/2 cord load onto the big trailer. It holds 300cu.ft. of random piled wood off the end of the elevator.

LUNCH TIME----Dustin really likes to eat. 3 blocks makes 2 seats and a table.

The load back home all safe and sound.

<img src="https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cvphotos/cvphoto55195.jpg"> I am very fussy about block length. I see people on U-tube use measuring sticks, the saw blade, and those little paint wheels to mark logs for sawing. I have been using a piece of PEX tubing on my saws for years to cut equal length blocks. It is simple and works well for me.

A little before Dustin and I finished off the load, his dad and some buddies came up to the field next to the woods and did some recreational shooting. Dustin stayed up with them for a while and then came back here with the 831C and load firewood trailer. I brought the 431T processor tractor home.

A good idea, but i couldent stand some thing sticking off my saw like that, i put a sharpie mark from the nose of the bar 24” back on the clutch cover, i just turn saw sideways quick eye the spot and cut. The little line next to the felling line. Yes its been great firewood weather.

Have you got lots of dead ash trees in your area. I've got so many here I will never get a chance to burn all of them before they rot.

Ive got more than Ill ever burn in northeast PA. Ive cut about 30 down just in the area with grass that I mow. There are another dozen or more on the grass edge and then too many to count in wooded areas.

Even got in some recreational shooting ! Always fun ! We can be thankful for this great weather, been great to work outside the last few days, same today, good weather to work on firewood, finally got some time for mine, got the last old stash of oak cluttering up my yard bucked and split yesterday. Look forward to hauling new logs in and being able to use my processing area at the house again, seeing it's cleared out and open again ! I should be well ahead of this years firewood, unlike years past, which is always a good feeling. Nice pics Loren, great to see the machinery out earning it's keep !

Love the smell of ash when cutting or splitting. I have 2 dead ash to cut--both about 16 in. diameter at the base and stays close to that size for 40 feet with no branches--beautiful wood. Always like to see your pictures of a great wood cutting operation, Gary.

The PEX is real flexible and I don't hardly notice it on the saw. I fell and block with this MS251C. I have a MS180 to do my limbing after felling a tree in the woods. The guide can be a nuisance in that process.-----It is too windy here today to drop any standing trees, so I will just pull out some more that are down this afternoon.====== Loren
