Ready to chop corn

Today we got all my vintage choppers out (well almost there is a Deere 3940 and a 12 with a direct cut head not pictured). We are planning to fill a 14x40 silo and a 7x200 bag the end of next week. I have someone with a drone that wants to come and take pics of us chopping. My wife says I need a blue chopper yet. Does anyone know of a Ford 680 (same as Allis 782) for sale? I would not mind a Fox 2100 yet as dad had a brand new one years ago. Tom

You sure you want one, that's a old machine, isn't it now, like 40 years old, or not ? hard to beat a Deere, in my opinion !

Still keeping an eye out for an IH 51 wagon for you. There is an AC wagon not too far away but not for sale at this point. Probably 5-6 years ago I saw a real nice AC blower (short table) at an auction over by Buffalo. Went for 600 dollars so some AC collector was on the ball that day.

Haven't seen any Fords in some time. Just seen a Fox 90 in excellent shape on Tractorhouse. Looks to be original & not a rattle can resto. There's also an IH 36C falsely listed on there as a #10. It's a bit rough but complete. Don't know if you're interested in either. The Fox is somewhere in Iowa & the IH is northern ILL.

A Ford and AC model are the same? I never knew that. So who built it? I had assumed AC built their own, given their history of somewhat unique designs, and using their own engines, etc.

The early Ford harvesters were built by themselves. The model 680 made in the late 60's to early 70's was an Allis 782. Later yet Ford sold an IH built machine. Tom

What, no Case? No collection is complete without a case. A 212 would fit nice, or 300 which is made in partnership with IH.

Most interesting. I never saw one, and I worked at an AC dealer from 72-84! But, we sold NH by the dozen. And there were a few NI Uni choppers around too.

Seems to me that AC had already exited the hay and forage lines by the time you joined up. Bad decision for AC as there were AC dealers here in NY that did not have access to a short line such as NH. Once the prosperous 1970's ended most of those dealerships were ghost towns with very little business coming in. A number of them sold combines during the 1970's which the demand fell off of a cliff during the 1980's. Back to the subject the neighbor years ago had an AC 782 with one row head and an AC 1960's vintage long table blower.

For the horse power and ability the Uni with a 3 row head will out chop all of them there and give you change back. I used to watch the local neighbors with the 1586 and big cases on their 2 row coppers crawling along with the smoke blowing and the engine bellowing away and the old Uni I would roll along with the wagon bouncing as we went. They would put screens in to chop hay fine enough. We never used a screen except for when we ground ear corn off the stalk then would look like ground feed in the wagon.

Yes, you need a fox. Look for a 2000 or 3000, or custom 90 or Super 1000- better than the 2200 series. Or an old self propelled.

There was just such a Ford-IH chopper (same as IH 720) sold at auction not 20 miles away from me this past March. Had both corn and hay heads with it.

Around ten years ago I saw the nicest Gehl one row chopper with engine to power the chopper at auction down by Bellona, NY. Sold for 600 dollars. Had the only front mounted Oliver cultivator I saw close up for a 4 digit Oliver tractor at the same sale. Good condition but don't remember the price. Maybe around 400 dollars. Three bottom 565 plow for 500 dollars.

I logged a few hours in a 702 w/ the V-6 Gimmy. Maybe a little light on the rear in our hilly country. Tied and strapped extra weight to the steer axle to get through.

Would be interesting and enjoyable to be a neighbor and help and/or watch. I'll be sure to enjoy any pictures you post.

I had an old Papec that I saved from scrap. Ended up selling it because I ended up not filling silo for animals like I was originally planning. It went down to the Delmarva about 10 years ago, maybe more. Guy might still be using it. It was far from worn out and had a bunch of spare knives with it.

Where is the binder and ensilage cutter? I have a IH binder and Papec ensilage cutter but no silo to fill. I used to use them years ago to chop some corn for the neighbors horses but he passed a way several years ago and haven't used the binder since. I have used the ensilage cutter a couple of times to chop up some old hay and straw.

I have the tractors and wagon enough to make them all work but not enough help. I have an Allis Chalmers wagon,110,112,three 122's and a 125 Deere chuck wagons as well as a 714A. I would like a nice IH 51 or 105 wagon as well. Tom
