Farmall in garage

As space has opened up in my insulated attached garage I am thinking of moving my farmall from the metal barn into the garage. Thought I should ask first in case this is a bad idea for some reason. Thanks

John

Do you use it as an occasional heated work space. All depends on how where you live. I do that here in
Minnesota and it will tend to cause a lot of condensation on metal items. I notice it on my tools mainly, just
something to be aware of.

I'm in Michigan. I do not heat the garage, it seems to maintain a temperature of around 40 degrees throughout the winter. Didn't know if something like fumes or fire risk could be an issue, thought I'd ask and see what others may have experienced.

As long as gas fumes do not show up you should be just fine but if gas fumes do show up DO not turn in lights etc. of the spark the switch makes could cause a big bomb

No more of a problem than that of a car or truck. I'd measure first to be sure the muffler will clear the garage door if it's a "H" or "M" or similar higher tractor.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

But tell me more about this "space has opened up"!

How does that happen? Never experienced that before, it's always the other way around! LOL

Very good idea to disconnect the ground cable from battery when storing
a tractor. It’s extra insurance. Couple years ago I drove W4 on yard and
parked by garage. Walked away the looked and saw smoke coming out
from tractor. Ran over to it and disconnected battery. The wires by
regulator were all worn and rubbed through and shorted out. That was a
close call. Now tractors in garage and shed have ground cables off.

Wise suggestion. I had to trim an inch or two off of the exhaust pipe of my Farmall 350 in order to fit through through the 8-ft overhead door in my shop. My Cub fits through with no problems, though!

Make sure you've got a modern, fume free gas cap. An old style cap, and your garage will fill with fumes in no time. The fumes may not be dense enough to constitute an explosion hazard but they will make the air hard to breath.

Row crop tractors are tall. Can you drive the tractor in without needing to duck under the door header?

Ok,but there was no reason for that.any house can burn down,in which case he has bigger problems, but that is way of topic.my point is,you didn't say your bosses' house burned because of a tractor in the garage.you just came right out and said "what if the house burns down"..i just think that is very misleading to the OP.

Friend had an H that didn't fit somewhere they wanted it to because of the muffler and they just had the pipe lose enough in the manifold they could remove the muffler
each time they wanted to have the extra clearance. Had to wear thick gloves though.

A Farmall tractor is much simpler than any modern car or truck. Much less to go wrong. Much less risk of fire. Turn off the gas to the carburetor, and unhook the battery for long term storage, and the machine is as inert as a stack of cinder blocks.

I have to believe you're smart enough to realize if the tractor will not fit through the door, and be able to figure out what to do if minor compromises need to be made to make it fit. Like, "Ohhhh nooooo! The muffler is too tall to fit through the door! Whatever shall I do?" That shouldn't even be a challenge to figure out.
