Removing carb on a SMTA

I can't figure out how to remove the 9/16 bolt on the engine side. Can't seem to get a socket or wrench on the burger. I need to get the carb cleaned. The engine will start but only runs for two or three seconds, then quits. Thanks for any ideas -- will let you know when I get it off.

Years ago I took a cheap wrench and bent it for doing just that job. Or you might try an crows foot but not sure it would work but I know the bent wrench does

I think I used a crows foot on mine. Bent wrench may work too. I have a 1/2 inch bent wrench to get to back bolt on distributor on SMTA

Does not sound like carb remove the drain in the carb to see a good stream for at least a minute cause if it starts there is some gas but not enough to keep running worth a check before removing the carb

New fuel filter as in in line filter?? If yes good chance it is the problem. NEVER had an in line filter on a tractor work well due to being a gravity flow system and most in line filters are made to work with a fuel pump with 7 plus PSI pressure which a gravity flow system will NEVER have

I've had it where I had to grind down the wall on a socket paper thin and hope it don't split when I put the torque to it. Also grind down a box end.

I have Had that problem too on a both of my SMTAs. I just keep changing sides and tried not to strip it. It works it just takes a long time. GOOD LUCK. Someone most likely has a better idea. zmy tractors would also stop running after a little bet even after I cleaned out the carb. I recommend cleaning the fuel line too.

that wild starts and runs means you have gas and spark but only runs a few sec takes longer than that to run the carb dryunless he butter fly linkage from the gov is messed up

A crow foot will work but, you need an open end angle head wrench, see link. I have a Snap on set of these 3/8” to 1”. Almost a must on newer tractors and combines with hydraulic lines running in tight spots all over hither, too and yond. I chose to show the metric ones because it was a better picture.
Example Angle head wrench set

A "stubby" combination wrench will get the job done. You absolutely cannot get a full swing, not even 1/2 of a swing on the wrench, but several "bites" will git-er-done.
