I’ll bet this on has a few more miles to go before retirement. It was sitting in Delaware behind a pile of watermelons With a lock box and a sign saying 2 dollars each. Put your money in the box. I bought two.

Where in Delaware?

I grew up in Laurel and worked for quite a few neighbor farmers back in the 80's handled alot of watermelons and cantaloupes too

Growing up my dad had our 4 row on a H,It did steer hard, but at that time power steering wasn't even talked about !

Our four row was on a JD 50. I was 10 years old, and not big for my age. Looking back, my father was nuts to put me on there. Also, looking back, there were 50's with power steering! Having only the hand clutch made it impossible for me.

Can you explain why "Having only a hand clutch made it impossible for you"? Sorry, I don't quite understand that. Thanks.

Imagine a little 10 year old kid trying to maneuver a cumbersome, hard steering machine, where precision is important, with the only means of stopping being a hand clutch so tight the kid needs both hands to yank on it.

Have you ever cultivated?

The JD 50 and this kid did not get along, as I had other challenges with it too. The next spring, as I turned 11, the 50 was replaced with a new 2510. What a difference!

I have not cultivated with a mounted cultivator. I do have a John Deere 50 and being an adult I don't need both hands to pull the clutch, but I fully understand it could be hard for a 10 year old, especially if that clutch was set very tight.

Thanks for your nice explanation.
