This plant insists on growing along my lane where I recently removed a Rose of Sharon. I'm sure it is not a rose of sharon
. Any idea what it is?

It is neither multi flora rose or Japanese knotweed. To me, it looks almost like some tree seedlings. What state/region is it in and what type of ecosystem (wetland, upland, etc)

Why does everybody run to Roundup to kill everything growing when 2 4 D is just as effective. Round up is getting so it will not kill anything around here ,such I have quit using it pretty much.

I won't agree that 2,4,d is just as effective, but it certainly has its place. I have found that Roundup will NOT kill pigweed, but 2,4,d WILL. Also, if you cut down a tree, even a small sapling, pour a little brush killer directly on the stump.

Looks like Ash to me too. I have them popping up all over and I welcome their arrival, or transplant to where I want another tree. I think they are the
perfect shade tree.

They are a great shade tree and as fast as they grow it's surprising how hard the wood is.
The emerald ash borer is probably going to eventually put an end to them much as the dutch elm disease nearly wiped out the elms.
The price of ash for lumber has gone up tremendously.
Because they were not worth a lot 'til now, there are plenty of big ones in the woods.
The logger who logged off my Dad's former woods last year showed me the forester's list of trees to be taken. Out of over 900 trees, over 300 were ash.

Because glypgosate is non selective, 2,4D is broadleaf only. At the right rate gly will kill most vegetation. 2,4D wont.

I understand that 2 4 D is a broadleaf only herbicide. And that is what we are looking to kill here in this case. And roundup has become a has been for soybeans without spraying either a burn down ahead of planting or doing a lot of respraying later and still not getting several of the worst weeds like Marestail, pigweed, ragweed and lambsquarter. I am seeing a lot of really weedy beans around the area this year. I happen to have some of the cleanest beans I've had in a few years.
