Time for a modern tractor...Massey, Kubota , Yanmar

Might be long, appreciate the read and thoughts !

I've used this site over the years with help with my older mechanical tractors which I love, but I have 5 kids and busy life and seems like more and more when I need to do some work I have to work on my equipment 1st.

I'm starting to do the research on modern tractors, looking at 4wd FEL in the min 40 HP to 60 HP range.

My largest tractor now is Ford 3600 which I believe is around 45HP, I my old Case backhoe was used for FEL jobs but she's showing lots of age now.

I don't think I would be pleased going under 40 HP, but do wonder if a monder 45 HP feels like the old Ford or more.

My closest dealer is Kubota, I do like the M5660 it would be the more expensive tractor and I think a solid purchase.

I can't help but look at this Massey 2605H, seems to be the older Massey style with some modern features. EGT for emissions no regen or DPF. Massey dealer is about 1 hr from me. I just don't know if I could trust the Massey long term and how available the parts are, I believe its all Indian based diesel and mass produced. But the features and cost are really attractive.

Just starting looking at Yanamar had some experience with a one of their 70s sub compacts and it was a mean little tractor. With Deere running a lot of their engines I think that says something too.

I'm in Georgia both Kubota and Yanamar have manufacturing here.

Any thoughts?

What about Deere? No dealer in your area, or don't they have anything in the size you want? We have a 4600, it has been flawless for 19 years, 1300 hours. Deere is the only dealer in our area, but we have never really needed the dealer, I bought oil and filters from them when it was under warranty, but after that not much. You can buy Deere filters and oil online too.

BTDT.

After buying two new MF tractors (2008 and 2014) I will never again do any business with MF/AGCO.

I now own 5 Kubotas (one an RTV) and am thoroughly sold.

I shopped JD before buying my L6060 in 2016.

JD had a model that I actually preferred in some regards but theeir dealer was both unhelpful and arrogant.

Never been back.

friendly John Deere dealer nearby. I now have a 3038e, a 5045 and a gator. I still prefer the feel, easy on, familiarity and comfort of my 640 Ford at times. but the newer JDz are just so reliable and need so little in comparison.

Kubota. I found a very nice low hour MX5000 for an excellent price. Went to Deere dealer, who is a friend, and he said "Buy it, good tractor, and I can't do you any better."

Not a new one, but I bought a L5030 Kubota last year.
2004 model and am very happy with it.
4 WD and FEL.
Saves me a ton of work with clamp on forks on the bucket when I pick up logs to cut into firewood length.
Bought 1t for $4500 and it has 3500 hours on it mostly pulling a trailer on a golf course with irrigation equipment on it.
Kubota dealer used to be 1 mile from here and is now 9 miles from here.
I was very fortunate that a friend had it and sold it to me as he did not need it.
Came with new tires which I filled with water and antifreeze.
Kubota dealer told me it was a 12 to 15,000 dollar tractor if he was selling it.

We have to understand that new Equipment. 1- Servicing if it breaks down. 2- getting the parts you need to
get it back up and running, 3- Just remember when a tractor is down and you need it how fast will it be to
have it back up and running. The last thing I would be looking at is this can I afford the monthly payment.
Plus do I feel like I can service the Equipment.

Service provided by the dealer ship is everything.............

Our neighbor rents our 244 acres........
When the JD BALER malfunctioned,Karen(Neighbor lady) had the operational manual, Parts manual and other information on the tail gate of her Truck.

She had called JD dealer ship (21 miles away) to be informed there was no one in Pats or the shop that could assist her.
Asked when could she talk to someone.........WE ARE IN A MEETING ...no idea as to when you possibly can talk and or order parts!

When Karen drove into our yard she was visibly upset. With CELL PHONE in hand took pictures of the problem, sent pictures to a dealer ship 60 miles away, only to be informed "SPRING" was in TORONTO CANADA,2000 + miles away..delivery SEVEN DAYS.

We removed Spring. With oxy Acetylene Torch, heated end of spring, formed new hook, quenched in a bucket of use oil.....

When the Neighbors NEWHOLLAND DISC BINE had a major catastrophe........reason for no dealer ship service.....SHOP MECHANICS are on a THREE DAY RETERAT ???? %&^(*&%^*&

Neighbor lady and I stated to do the repair around 9:00am....it passed the test run at 7:00pm..

CHECK INTO DEALERSHIP PROVEN SERVICE!

What are you planning to do with the tractor? We have both an older Kubota L5030 and a basically new M7060. Love them both. If more loader work I would lean towards a hydrostatic over a gear drive. If mostly
field and pulling type work, get a geardrive. I generally wouldn't recommend under 40hp. 50+ you should be happy for a utility tractor. The M5660 is really stripped down though compared to a 7060...

Thanks folks, I've bought parts and some Stihl stuff from the local Kubota place, far as I know they are good people. I have not done any service type work with them but could ask around.

There are some Deere dealers around, I had remember reading some of the stories of the way Deere treated larger farmers about working and servicing their equipment and it really turned me off. Not sure if they are like that on their smaller utility stuff.

Also, I would love to buy an early 2000s tractor with FEL before more of the emissions stuff but anything I see around here is almost the price of new, and been used hard I'm sure.

Sounds like for you Kubota would be a good choice. As far as HP newer horses just don't seem as strong as older horses ! lol. You will likely be happier if jump up a few over what you have now.

If I was looking for a new tractor I would at least have to look at Mahindra.
Couple coworkers have them and seem to like them.
They do sell more tractors than anyone in the world.

But the price would have to be good for me to buy it over a Kubota or Deere.
Those are the only three brands I would even look at.

I am on my second Kubota in 34 years. I have never needed dealer service so I don't see that as being a big factor.

I have bought new Kubota tractors and so far very
satisfied. And the dealer is close by. If JD or M F
was across the road, I’d probably have their stuff.
All brands are about equal distance from my farm,
but I like the folks at Kubota best, so they get my
business

I brought a Bota L4800 after the first year I would have moved up BUT did not want to deal with computer control's... A bud left me his new MX5800 with a backhoe to use for a couple of weeks I feel in love with the MX... Truth Be known the L is all I need the MX did fit me well I still do all my plowing with my old Fords...

For me it would be between Deere and Kubota. I have 2 newer John Deeres (newest one is 2006, other one is 2000) along with 4 older
Fords which are used in a haying operation . I am very satisfied with the Deeres. I would look on Tractorhouse and any local
places like CL for a good pre-emission tractor in the brand and model you want

Im not very mechanically inclined, so for me I went with New Holland since they have a good dealer near me. So far I like my new tractor.

No they are the larger utility tractors, one built in GA, one in India. My Dad had a smaller Deere that was made by Yanmar and it was a very reliable tough tractor.

(quoted from post at 18:16:26 08/24/20) Your JD tractors are very likely to be Yanmar built but with JD green and yellow paint

One of the Deere I did look at online was powered by Yanmar Diesel why I was thinkin might as well look at Yanmar. Looks like they engineer build everything on them ( I believe like Kubota)

Also I had thought maybe with more modern transmissions and emissions their might be some power loss to wheels why I was thinking about going up to that 50-55 HP over the 45 ish from my ford.

One good thing I see about Kubota looks like when warranty is up there are aftermarket options to delete the emissions.

I want to see the MX5800 and the M5660suhd side by side and sit on them etc... MX may do what I want, but I do want a solid FEL and be able to use a grapple.

Try working on a couple of them when they break down an I am sure what you think of them would change in a heartbeat. Plus parts are hard to come by. BTDT

Grew up on AC, ran JD for past 30 years. This year bought a new Kubota M4-071, 65 PTO hp., FWA, shuttle shift, FEL. Very pleased with it. Beneficial technology yet not so space age that I can't figure it out. Very nice cab. Right size for our smaller hay operation. Local JD dealer has no use for small operators, are hellishly over priced on whole goods and screw you into the ground on service. MF dealer is very good but acknowledged he couldn't compete on price with Kubota. Kubota dealer been in business since 1936 with several brands over the years but is now Kubota only and is excellent in all respects. Kubota appears to be moving gradually into a larger array of products and appears to doing so intelligently. Would be a mistake not to look at them from what I have experienced.

A 5800 will do'dat I do like the 5660 : )... HST is nice for loader work, mowing, it does eat HP the gear range selection chucks : (...

I have four Kubotas and have never had to do anything except change fluids. Solid machines. The L's need wheel weights or some ballast as they are light for traction. The M6040 is a joy to own and operate.
Several Fords too but they are the fun ones.

I can tell you one thing , 4 years from now the KUBOTA will out sell the Massey some and the YANMAR
buy a lot. Used Masseys are just not strong in the market. Price on the MX Kubota is less for a
reason, cheaper built with less features, for the customer that can,t compare features and is just
comparing price. Stay with the standard M if you can afford it and be satisfied.

Hands down go with the Kubota

1.) I like the ergonomics
2.) resale value - they have parts support for their
older tractors that keeps the use prices up.
3.) dealer support - have 2 dealers I get parts and
advice from. Both fantastic
4.) Kubota Corp support. Yes Kubota was very
helpful when I was making modifications to a tractor
or implement . Even sent a guy out to the regional
warehouse to take a picture of a part to make sure
it was the correct one
5.) Durability. Lack of breakdowns

Yes I might purchase another brand good price or
better fit to my needs at the time but Think the
Kubota is the better tractor. And impressed with
the dealer and corporate Kubota support.

Resale on used 'Botas is so good that cost of ownership is nearly nothing. Buy it, use it for ten years, trade it in on new at 90% of initial purchase.

For the price of these new fancy high dollar models you can have a half dozen of the older more reliable ones. Like I juat had happen doing hay the one developed a flat tire so just used the other cheap older tractor to finish up with now will fix flat tire. It was a rear tire so not a just swap it out and go. Though If I had went over to my brothers I could have taken one off his 856 to use.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. And yes we have about a dozen older interchangeable models around.

And in Rome, Ga. is the US distributor/general offices of Branson. I have 2 of them to go with my vintage 3 Fords. I doubt you will find new replicating the
old, but I have no problem using any of my '63-'88 Ford 2000-3910, 30+ to 45+ HP tractors and my 2007-2016 24-65 HP Bransons with Cummins licensed
engines.

we actually have a Branson dealer here in my town. They used to have Yanmar but now Branson. I've heard good things about them.

I did some online looking at the JDs. 5055E looks like a Nice tractor, I believe JD locks you in with having to use their front end attachments?

well i look at my dealer first second i try to go no late r then tier 3 engine pre emission now that might be hard to find a good used one and i stay away from Mahindras i think the only time i agreed with old... ok you looking at a 40 45 hp no thy wont feel like your old ford or jd or ih or case i have a massy 1250 loader 4 wheel drive i and a bunch of other tractor but i use it two three time a week it is just handy and we do have a good agco dealer with good parts service but we also have big deere dealer and case ih kubota new holland dealer
