We only shelled fresh from the field a couple times. When dad grew better corn and it wouldn’t fit in the crib. Took some extra hands then.

My uncle and dad picked corn together, dad ran the F20 and mounted picker, uncle rant the little international with the hoist, ran 2 barge boxes and an old triple flair box
was the backup wagon. Mom or aunt would help with the elevator at the crib, and one of us kids would be the hitch pin patrol, having a mounted picker on an F20 in the
mud come backing up at you developed fast reflexes, dad couldn’t see anything and reverse was a little fast......

To shell at harvest another kid got involved and uncle had to drive one of the two trucks to town, two kids were in charge of getting wagons and running the sheller.

In fall, about now or a little earlier before school started, we would shell the little corn left in his crib, and And the corn left in dads crib. MM D sheller and uncles S77
Oliver. Again mom and dad, uncle, and two kids. We loaded the cobs right onto spreaders and hauled them to the field while dad or uncle took the corn to town.

I always enjoyed shelling corn. Wife and I, just the 2 of us, still shelled the crib into the early 2000s.

Those MM sheller were corn eating monsters, I never wanted to try to keep up with an E, the D took it fast enough!

Some 65 year old shelling crib corn memories- It was my job to shoot rats with my BB gun(hard to hit runners).....the time
a rat ran up an uncle's pant leg and down the other biting him 4 times......the time another uncle got his hand caught in
the drive chain between drag sections.....ah, good times.....?

Nice set up. We always had shelled corn on the ground and thought it was just us, well I see we were not the only ones with that problem. Even tried canvases. Best is when we shelled the
large crib that took 40 feet of drag line. We parked it on the slab that we could let the hogs on. Cleaned up pretty fast then. Ours was a JD.I Like the memories. Talking about rats we did
a crib for the neighbors and saw one of the old guys using twine to tie his pants legs down.

When I was young we had A neighbor with an Oliver 88 diesel and A MM model E belt
driven sheller. We had A corn crib that the ears would run out as fast as you wanted.
We shelled A truck load of corn (300 bu.) in 12 minutes. The diesel pulled down to
about 1000 RPM's the whole time.

We started out with the MM D Put the JD. 50 on it. Then we got the E. JD. 50 not enough power so put the JD. 60 on it. With that slow running two banger the cob stacker chain would bounce like high tide
coming in so we had to put the 700 Case on it. That made a real nice shelling combo. Like someone else mentioned, could fill the truck in 12 minutes. Pa hauled the shelled corn to town with the F-4 Ford 10
ft. box and Uncle was hauling with his IHC. 14 ft. box. While cousins and I were waiting for a truck to get back we baled up the husks and hauled the cobs down to neighbors cattle feed lot. Nobody had time
to sit down for even a minute. Between us and two Uncles we had to shell about 30,000 bushels a year.
