Went to my daughters in MO yesterday and came home today. Went thru Ceder Rapids Iowa both times. The damage is unbelievable. Went down Rt 1 (right almost on top of David G's) The corn had the leaves stripped off like a hail storm. Just stalks with a tassel and ear left of what was standing. Some huge grain bins and countless barns and machine sheds destroyed. I have seen tornado damage but that is usually a small area this was thousands of acres. I think every tree in the area had some wind damage. In Mt. Vernon they were piles of branches along all the streets some over 8 ft high. On the way home we went into Ceder Rapids and parts of the city are still without power and the amount of damage is beyond description. The most damage I have ever seen anywhere. Tom

National News services are too busy with "fluff" to follow up on real news like earthquakes where they don't happen often and major storms in thee heartland! Just my opinion, but what do I know.

A gal from our area, went down to help her mom cleanup at the farm. She said the damage is just unbelievable.

Tom,

It is insane here, we got power back last night about 8:00, but there are huge areas of Cedar Rapids that do not and will not for a while. If you thought Mount Vernon was bad, you should see the SW side of Cedar Rapids, and the Marion area. We are all exhausted here.

The national guard came in Friday to clean up trees, they and out of town crews have been a godsend.

My automatic generator failed the first day, I have over 150 hours on PTO generator.

I am one of the lucky ones here.

I've seen right much on the national news about the storm, the way it always works with the news is they report when something happens, what happened etc.The clean up doesn't really involve anything new so they move on to the next event. We had a big wind storm here about 10 years ago lost power for 6 days, was in the high 90's all 6 days, cut trees and repaired fences for about 2 weeks.

Finally made about 2 minutes on national news tonight , but sure has not been much about it considering how wide spread it was.

My heart goes out to all the people that suffered damage in this storm.

From the pictures and things I've seen on the internet it looked bad and some got hit hard. I've seen very little on the National News. But the observation I've made is the people involved just grabbed their saw, tools, and equipment and proceed to clean it up and do what needed to be done to get back to normal. I can't help but admire the people and the fact they are doing what they got to do and aren't just crying and waiting for someone to bail them out like I've seen in many other cases such as this. Not to mention I'm sure there have been many involved that are going to take a big financial hit and I hope they get some help but you don't here or see them asking for it.

Well with multiple murders and shootings every day in most of the large cities, the virus, election, riots, etc etc,I guess corn stalks and buildings getting blown down doesn't really rate too high in the overall picture of things these days.
