Got my old Onan out to run the shop so I can fix a few things. I think its a model JC I can't remember. I hadn't started it since last fall, and it hasn't ran more than a hour at a time in the past few years. Stuck the fuel hose in a fresh tank of gas and jumped it off the car and she fired right up. After being on a load for a few minutes I checked the voltage, it was a bit high at 128v. There are two pots on the control board, I tweaked one a bit and the open circuit voltage came down to 121v and with a fair load on it is 116v. Cycles are 61-62 but that might be my meter. It is a cheap digital. Power company says we'll be out for another 3-4 days so it will get some run time.

The voltage was fine at no load. Because it will drop when the load hits. 61-62 is fine no load because it too will drop when the load hits. Where it is at now is fine. I would take the load off shut it down in two days.Check the oil and start it back up. I have see the JC units run for days no problem. I don't see an oil shut down sensor. Some didn't come with then.

DON'T try to check the oil with it running. It will spit it out at you. Very nice looking unit. Better than anything you will find today.

Here's the data plate Billy. I seen a lot of these gens in fire dept's and sheriff offices over the years. I think they were from Civil Defense.

Kind of hard to read in the photo. The model is 15.0JC-3CR/AA and the serial is 0874830435. I have a manual for it somewhere. But since you know these machines, is the AC output controlled by the DC voltage? Reason I ask the battery was almost dead and wouldn't spin it over. So I jumped it off the car. As soon as it started I took the jumper cables off and plugged in a trouble light to make sure it was making power. The battery amp gauge was almost pegged and wavering. The trouble light was wavering too, matching the change in the amp gauge. So I hooked the jumper cables back up and the amp gauge dropped below 5 amps. Because the car was still running and the battery in the car is good. As soon as that happened the wavering stopped in both the gauge and the light. Once it had the gen battery charged up I unhooked the car again and this time no problems. So, I think the idea here is this gen needs a good battery to start and run properly. Your thoughts?

Tag says 120/240v, 15kw and 62 amps. Looks heavy built all around to me. Billy Shafer will give us the details on it.

This is what I see

Made in August 1974. 08 74

Spec AA was when they stopped making the Mag units. Went to solid state system.

300-1540 is the regulator board.

Can be wired 120-240-120/240

Bad idea to unhook the battery. The charging system has no voltage to comtrol. So it goes nuts. Can burn the system up. It is 46 and still doing its job. That should tell you how good they are.

Doug how far are you from Union.Ia i have a friend in Union he sent me a picture of one of his fields of corn the corn was flat except one row along the edge of the field.

I'm 7 miles south of Union. I heard they got power last night. Conditions are about the same as here but once you get north of Union a few miles it gets better. Union is a good community I'll be up there Monday night for a meeting.
