finding square head bolts

In re doing this # 8 C ( Canadian) two furrow tractor plow I thought it would be appropriate to find replacement bolts with square heads and nuts to re assemble it with ( since the original are badly chewed out). Any of the suppliers here in Ontario near London, are unable to supply the small number and sizes needed or desired. Most of the main bolts are 5/8 dia., and between 2 1/2 and 3 & 1/2 inches long and about 16 to 20 on total number.
Would any one have a lead on where one might find ""AT a REASONABLE price". I could use the newer hex bolts but would like to keep the original look if possible.
Thank you for your assistance.
Wm.

Depends on what you consider "REASONABLE."

Are you going to find square head bolts for $3.48 a pound? No. Not a chance.

Look for old-time hardware stores. I mean the ones where the bolts are in wooden bins. There are a few out there still that might have old stock.

If none in your area, McMaster Carr is your best bet.

I restored an old railroad baggage cart a while back, and I got all the square head bolts and nuts from Fastenal.

Thank you for the information that all of you sent I took down the I/D for McMaster, I will also check with Fastenal as well.
Thank you again for all your help.

Yeah, McMaster has everything! Just be ready with the part nos. when you call. They are an industrial supply and expect you to know what you want and be ready. But great to deal with and you will have the stuff in a DAY or maybe TWO .Just amazing. A lot of companies could learn a lot from the way MMC does business.

Good for you- taking the time to find the correct fasteners. While nice shiny cad plate nuts and bolts are practical, they sure look out of place on old implements. I've had good luck with a local bolt supply. They still have an extensive counter book, and they will let you go through it. If it's in the book, they can get it. Not always cheap, but there is an amazing amount of stuff still available. I've had some luck in old time hardware stores, both for small square nuts and bolts, and slot head stove bolts. I've found long bolts for timber construction which can be re-threaded in the lathe to make shorter and odd ball sizes. unc

I've bought square head bolts (fine thread, even) for vintage Ford tractor front wheel weights from Affordable Fasteners in Harrison, Ohio on multiple occasions.

Usually they must order a box but have always sold them to me in whatever quantity I desire.

Not sure if they will ship to Canada.

There are places all over that sell them. Either do a google search or you can find them on ebay. Unless you are needing them yesterday it would be easier to order them anyway.
