Here is another tractor for Grandpa. He can go into the ditch digging business!

None of you guys are probably old enough to remember Jeep trenchers. Some company that probably evolved to "Ditch Witch" made a trencher that mounted on a CJ. Brother in law bought a 47 in the early 60's that had been on a trencher. Less than 40,000 on the clock.

Can those hydraulics be turned on gps controls and lets go, be nice to have that!

Did that have some rare hyd clutch control added, I can’t imagine trying to drive that rig with a regular non-live clutch and non-live hydraulics!

The Auburn Jeep-A-Trench? I wasn't around when they were shiny & new, but I've seen a few earning their keep when I was a tad younger. There was also a company that made a backhoe that integrated onto the back of a CJ. Don't recall who made those.

Engine was completely wore out, ran, but smoked a bunch. Previous owner had bought a new one & put the original trencher on the new one. Told my brother in law most of the miles had been put on it in low gear, low range. I was with him when he pulled the head to begin an engine overhaul. You could actually see that the cylinder bore was "egg-shaped". No measurement needed. He "sleeved" the engine and drove it for years. It growled a lot in low gear and in low range in all gears.

Wonder if there was a 2nd reduction between tranny and rear end- can't imagine 1st gear on that 5 speed would be slow enough to trench that deep!

Could have been, remember seeing it around Mitchell, SD after my brother in law had fixed the old Jeep up. We pulled the old girl behind my '61 Chevy Byscane out to the Black Hills to hunt deer with it the first year after he rebuilt the engine. Had a lot of fun with that old Jeep. I remember when we stopped at a gas station before we were going coyote hunting one day & talked to the original owner. He couldn't believe that the original tranny was still hanging in there. (It was a 4 speed & that was unusual for the era.)
