Chev gas filler

Has anyone had to change the gas filler on a 2000 GMC 1500 pickup because of rust. Just wondering how big a job it is. Thanks

Not bad if you take the bed off are leave the rear bolts take the rest out and lift the front. Its also possible to lift one side of the bed. I take the bed off its easy for me to do with a lift...

You can drop the tank the filler comes out with the tank it is a P.I.T.A to do if no lift are jack to support the tank...

Replaced fill neck on my 2000 C/K . Put floor jack under tank and lower it 5-8
inches, should be able to get to clamps. Hope tank strap bolts come apart decent.
It's a fun job. :(

Changing the filter isn't difficult. If the filter is getting plugged up with rust then your gas tank is probably rusting and left unchecked could rust through where it would leak. You would need to remove the gas tank and clean out the tank with phosphoric acid. Put some nuts and bolts in the tank while you do it to break loose any loose particles. Once it has been rinsed out and dry coat the inside of the tank would need a fuel tank liner to prevent it from rusting again. It's like pouring a quart of paint inside the tank and you tip the tank at all angles to insure 100% coverage. Then pour out the excess and allow the liner to dry. Of course to do this you have to remove the fuel pump and sending unit so it just the sheetmetal tank you are working on. If it were me I would plan on putting in a new fuel pump at the same time.

iller vs filter

The tank in my 2001 is plastic. I changed mine when I put in a new fuel pump, not to bad a job. Remember that roll over spill protection tube extends into the tank. quite a distance. Get a new rubber tube and the filler end so you can just cut the tube off the tank.
