Not getting gas to cylinders 2 and 4 on 8n. Have installed 2 aftermarket carbs. Will run about 5 seconds with starter fluid. It's timed properly,
new coil and points. Mechanic checked compression all ok, he says venturi not working properly. Need Help

I would agree with intake gaskets. I doubt all 3 carbs are bad. I would try spraying carb spray around the manifold while running to see if it changes the way it runs. Had the same thing with an old WC.

arb is not cylinder specific, it feeds a "pipe"/manifold with outlets to 4 cylinders. Further more, the manifold only has two outlets, where one feeds cylinders 1 & 2 and the other feeds 3 & 4, so no fuel to 2 & 4 makes no sense.

Maybe you are only getting strong spark to 1 and 3. Cracked cap, bad wires, bad rotor, too much resistance in voltage to the coil, worn bushings in dist, or the ever popular two wire swapped. There is a Forum for Ns here and you will find many fine mechanics specializing in your tractor.

I had a similar issue and found out that it had to do with my fuel supply BEFORE the carb. I drained all the gas out of the tank from the fuel line right before the carb into a coffee filter. I was amazed at the crud that came out. I then put on a new strainer and removed the inline NAPA fuel filter and the problem went away for me. Good luck.

If you have wires on the wrong position it can act like its not getting gas. I don't know the firing order on a Ford but on Farmalls its 1-3-4-2 and #1 is in the 1:00 position and #1 cylinder is closest to the radiator. I don't understand how an experienced mechanic can say its the venturi in the carb if you are getting gas to two cylinders. I also don't know how the intake manifold is arranged on a Ford but if the 2 cylinders have a common intake pipe in the manifold then it could have a hole somewhere.

I agree, it cannot be the carburetor when some of the cylinders work. You have done a compression test, which rules out head gasket and valves. I would really look for 2 and 3 plug wires switched or an intake leak, both of which are simple tests.

Fords are 1,2,4,3 as for the firing order but yes could be the problem plus if a front mount distributor easy to mix them up

It's true Ford's like choke and run rich, but I would think if gas is coming out of the air cleaner side of the carb you have an electrical problem. Are the plugs wet? Fouled? Is the timing correct?

When I was a mere lad, I changed the wires on dad's 8n. I could not get ut to run right nor idle. I wanted to surprise dad. Well when he got home from work he was surprised, and the went through tracing plug wires. It started instantly. Moral. Change on wire at a time OR make a diagram before you take a part. Now says, I just take pics with my cell phone.

Good luck.

You can have them mixed up on a side mount also. Try switching the plug wires and see if ti then runs on all 4
