Fuel line problem/question

I am working on an Onan CMQD 10000 diesel generator. I have replaced the line/hose from the fuel filter to the injectors and the rubber return line to the tank. Both were cracked and leaking. Now that I have those repaired I see a slow leak where the steel fuel line from the tank goes into the filter. This is maybe a 3/8 steel line with a flare fitting where it enters the filter. That is where the leak is. I have very limited access to the engine compartment as it is built into the side of a truck. My thought is to cut the line 3 or 4 inches from the fitting and splice a new piece in but don't know how to connect to a steel line that has no Barb or even a bulge on it. Can I use a ferrel and fittings?
Any other ideas?
How much fuel pressure do I have into a 3 cylinder Isuzu engine?

Thanks
Dave

Yes you can use a ferrule compression union, but it must be made for steel and have a steel ferrule. Be sure to match the size exactly, it may be metric.

That should be a low pressure line. Be sure to match the flare exactly. If you can find a factory flared line, all the better. Hand flaring steel is hard to get right.

Before you go into cutting the line and replacing part of it, how about where the adapter threads into the filter?

An old trick to help stop a leak at a flare fitting is to slip the compression nut back, open a little gap between the flare adapter and the flare, and apply a tiny bit of grease to the mating surface. This enables the two surfaces to slip past each other a tiny bit to help alignment. It worked for me recently in a fuel line union that was sucking air.
