3 point disc mowers

For you guys who use disc mowers do you use a chain that only let's the list arms only go down so far or do you just see the quadrant lever to set it.and do you put the cutter bar cylinder in the float position. I have a newholland HM235 7 ft cut

I have a 9+ foot fairly new NH, it came with chains and I use them I like.

My tractor doesn’t easily float, but I let the end of the bar down a little lower than level and then mow, so it is essentially in float.

I don’t know if I’m doing it right but hay gets cut.

My three point floats of course, my hydraulics dont have a float mode I would have to tie the lever.... so I lower the far end of the bar lower than level, and let it ‘float’ that way.

I might have been confusing with my short comment.

I have a Fella mower that I bought used and it has no chains so I set the stop on my quadrant lever. I have to raise both the bar with the remote and the 3pt separately, so having the stop helps a lot. I have used newer mowers where you only need to raise the remote to raise the cutter bar and the inside shoe will also raise at the same time. My mower does not do that. I always set the bar remote to float unless I am mowing over a bank and don't want the end of the cutter bar to go too low. Mark.

I run the same mower, HM235. Had it since new.

I use the chain between the tractor and mower, but only to prevent the mower from dropping too far. I eyeball the quadrant lever position so the chain is almost taking weight.

Your lower links are supposed to be 20" off the ground.

The 2nd cutting height chain should take weight almost the moment you lift the 3pt, should just have a little slack in it mowing. Think I run it on link 8 or 9.

For the remote, you can run in it float like the book says, but I found on wetter ground I let the cylinder hold a bit of weight to help the bar carry better.

I ran it in float all this summer since the ground was so dry and hard.

Make sure your breakaway link is set right, mine was too sensitive.
