In the hay field

Cut earlier this week. Rake and bale yesterday. 215 bales. 114 on trailer. 100 on ground still. Boys gave up on me!! Still got 4-5 acres to rake and bale. 95° today. No rain ( they claim) " new" 951 done great. Sure sounds different than my 960 with the pipe sticking up! Only thing that smells better than fresh hay is homemade bread!!!

The New Holland 254 tedder- rake combo is doing a great job. Fluffy windrows!

You need a wagon hooked to the baler to stack on! It's still a lot of work, but a lot less than baling on the ground. I occasionally run out of room and have to drop a few on the ground. Makes me realize if I had to pick everything up I baled I'd never square bale again lol! Great pictures by the way

Hilly field. Poor ford brakes! Baler
will push you down the hill. Even locked
up the back tires and slid. Hate to add a
wagon! Lol.

Yep. One of them got his driver's license between first and second cutting. He would rather be out with his girlfriend. The younger one wants to tag along.......

If it is that steep it is better to use a lower gear going down hill and stay off the brakes. Brakes lock wheels which then slide as you found. A lower gear may have some wheel slip but will hold more traction than locked wheels.

looks great! id come down and help you, but, im too old, its too hot there, the hay is too heavy and id like a tractor with an air conditioned cab! in my younger days i always got stuck on the hay rack stacking.

put bale basket wagon behind that unit they work slick, pics do no show much of hill i used to do that sold all small square to grocery stores, straw was money maker hay bales no

I cut hay on Wednesday and baled yesterday. Started raining early this morning so good I got it done. 6 or 7 big round bales and it is in the hay barn

Hi Grandpa

Your hay job looks like it is going well, watched the video on the other post. With dropping bales on the ground can you get a ground drive elevator (IH and New Holland made them) that attaches to the side of a wagon then someone can drive and two stakers on the back will get it loaded. Just a suggestion as when I was younger that is how a lot of hay was picked up in our area. You wont have the extra weight of the wagon and baler pushing you on the baling tractor. Here in Australia we don't use throwers or tow trailers behind balers. These days a lot of small square operations use an accumulator behind the baler this drops a pack of 10 or 15 bales then a loader and grab pick them up and load on a truck or trailer, makes it easy to stack in a shed as well. More money invested and less labour, just some ideas.
