Jubilee Hyd pump

My 1953 Jubilee is having hydraulic issues, sometimes I can get it to work and other times it will not work. It has the vane type hyd pump and was wondering if I changed it to the newer type pump if I would
need to change the hyd lines?

I think the problem is that the pump has a slight leak and needs to be primed each time that tractor is being used. I have changed the large O ring a couple of time but maybe leak is coming from the gaskets
vice the O ring. I plan on removing the pump today and see if the gaskets need to be replaced.

Note, the only way that I know of priming the system is applying air pressure to the dip stick tube, any other suggestions.

I had the same situation on a Jube I owned. I inquired about changing to the better pump and was told that it was necessary to change the lines as well. I finally put on a new vane pump although I would rather have had the better pump.

MN valley man, thanks, I have the pump off and the gasket appear to be OK, I will change the two O rings and put it back on and see what happens. I may need to prime it again to get fluid to the pump.
The two lines are almost $300 bucks, wonder why?

I would look everywhere on the pressure side for a leak. The manifold running along the bottom side of the tractor was not one of Fords better Idea's. Brazed up more than a few of these.

I believe there is a port on the pump to let air out. If so, try loosening it while cranking or adding air pressure.

Vane pump works great, but still have a slight leak that I have not determined where leak is coming from. I removed the vane pump and cleaned with brake cleaner to remove evidence of any fluid and reinstalled. After I got it primed and working, I noticed that drops of fluid was hanging on the bolt heads to the large line. I was wondering if they make a thicker O-ring that may help in sealing the large line. The small line appears to not leak. I am guessing that the small hydraulic line is the pressure line and the large is the return line??
