Just wondering what everyone is growing for sweet corn? I have planted Peaches and Cream for years but this year it does not seem to be very sweet, so I'm wondering if I should try another variety next year.
I can't say I'm organic but lean that way so nothing gets sprayed. Just cultivated to death but it maybe time for me to get away from that and go round-up ready.
I'm also wondering what people think about the round-up ready sweet corn?

You feed back will be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Jerry

I've been planting Seminis SV9010SA. It is Roundup-Ready and genetically modified so there are no corn borer worms in it. It is the sweetest corn we've ever had, and many people who have tried it say the same.

I've been planting Argent for over 20 years, it's a white sugar extender variety. I like it more than Silver Queen because it stands better and produces under less than favorable conditions.

Got tired of high sweet corn seed prices and then couldn't find what I wanted in this area. Ordered Silver Queen and a brand called Stowell's which is also white, and have been crossing the two for four years now. Getting very large ears, often two to a stalk. I save the best ears for seed the following year. Use a little Liquid Sevin for ear worms but that's all.

Just wondering how peoples minds work these days. Adds on TV about weed killer causing cancer.
And corn? I used to plant corn and we had a box on the back of the planter with insecticide. Now the GMO corn has the insecticide INSIDE THE PLANT!!! Are you nuts?
But don't worry be happy! It won't kill you right away. Give it time. Besides, if you get cancer, maybe you can sue and get a big settlement!

(quoted from post at 10:35:47 08/03/20) "Incredible" is what we grow and our customers prefer.

"Incredible" is my favorite also. It is sweet enough that we do not even bother with butter, salt, or pepper.

Only problem is this year, and also last year, we had very poor germination. Only about 1/2 came up.

Seminis Obsession 2 here also. Be cause if you buy about 30K worth of dent corn seed the dealer will give you a couple 5 lb bags.

Wife loves ambrosia. It keeps well for a number of days when ripe. Started planting that variety about 10 years ago. I got frustrated with the stuff as it grew spindly and blew over right before eating time. Well, the solution was to deep shank rip the garden and presto, these stalks are about 8’ tall and strong to boot. I learned what hard pan is all about for sure. And, the supervisor agrees.

And my dad complains about seed being expensive at 30.00 a pound. OR something like that. Found some later for about 12.00 a pound.

Haven't seen the variety we grow, but it fetches $7 a dozen without complaints. We tell customers it is Jimmy Crack Corn (and we don't care) LOL!

You struck a cord with me. This is what I was looking for. I have not used insecticides or pesticides in all the year I have been planting sweet corn. Since these new seeds are out I just started to wonder if other people though the same way I did. You seem to be the only one.
