Took a trip up to Holmes County Amish country Ohio

Friday morning the wife and I decided since we have not been anyplace this summer, to go up to the Amish country. Little did we know till we were eating that there was a steam show going on with tractor pulls at 6:30 and it was 5:00 then. So we had a super enjoyable evening watching the pulls. There were no prizes or trophies given, it was purely just for bragging rights. I believe it was a lot better that way cause for the most part it eliminates cheating (I'm sure there was some). I got to watch an old Cockshut beat out some AC WDs and JD As and an Alice 180 do a full pull beating out the others including the JD 4010s and 4020s. We had super good food at Mrs. Troyer's restaurant and enjoyed watching the steam tractors and the pulls. We stayed Saturday and sure enjoyed the hospitality of that area, but I was glad to be home again this afternoon

It's been awhile since I've been to Amish country, and I'm about due for a Mrs. Troyers meal....did you have any of her pie?

I was there a week ago Friday at the dauthy show we left about 2:30 and I took my buddy on up to Lemans hardware store and showed him the carvings they have there just amazing me and the wife where up there a couble weeks before that

No, I was too full from the buffet. I did have some Banana pepper boiled eggs. (same as pickled eggs but pickled in pickled banana pepper juice. Never saw them before but I think the wife is gonna make some. They were good.

We went to Lehman's too but it seems like their prices have gotten pretty high since we were there the last time. I took some pictures of the carvings and I agree they are some darn nice carvings.

One of our favorite museums in the country is the Warther Museum in Dover. Amazing collection of carving by Mooney Warther. It should be on your bucket list.

I lived near Shreve in the late 1940's, early 50's. It was sure different then. Everyone was a dairy farmer. No tourism. Just good folk working hard to make a living. Amish kids went to public school through the 5th grade, I believe. We lived next to Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. I recall a funeral for 2 brothers killed in the Korean War.
