Electric fuel pump

Hi everyone, I ran my 1967 IH 424 out of gas. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but after adding a few gallons it will not start.
I could tell something was wrong as soon as I turned on the ignition. Usually you hear the fuel pump working before I hit the starter. It didn't make a sound. It cranked fine, I checked what connections you can get to by hand. Is there a way to service that fuel pump? I see that the bottom has a nut and twist off dogs.
This is the C-146 four cylinder gas engine.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I assume you checked for voltage at the pump?

If so, nothing to loose by taking it apart.

If you do replace it, be sure to get a very low pressure pump, 2-4 PSI.

Someone on here was referring to a brand they found that was reliable. So many are not.

It may have a fuse that would need to checked. Also did you check for voltage at the pump? Also I would tap on the pump lightly with the key on-nothing to lose! Mark.

Thanks Steve, it is sitting out in the field, I will take some tools out there tomorrow.
I looked online and found a few for sale all just over a hundred bucks. ZT Truck parts had the best deal. Never heard of them, but the reviews are positive. I will take it apart first. Didn't want to spend that much and wait a week just to mow the fields.

Thanks 007 it is the cylindrical, similar to the gold flow. Pretty sure it only has a single wire. I will clean things up, check the ground etc. tomorrow. Interesting that they even mention the clicking sound in that PDF. It was helpful. Thanks again.

Just replied to your thread in the IH forum. Did you remove the sediment bowl and clean it and the screen out real good? You may have had crap in the bottom of the tank that got pushed to the bowl as it was running out. I have had minor issues at times with my 2424 pump, but never anything requiring replacement or repair in 30 years.

I agree with Tim. Onan used the same pump on generators. Once they quit or have trouble. You might as well replace them. Looks like that one has been there awhile.

When you get the new pump put an inline filter between the sediment bowl and pump, sediment bowl will not filter out really fine metal particles that will screw up the pump and needle valve in the carb.I'd take the pump off and see if I could clear out the intake side of the pump may just be stopped up with the stuff that got sucked in when the last of the fuel went in it.

You should be able to find an electric fuel pump on Ebay that would work. Probably not look the same though.
